Alpine Community Projects founder Kristen Moody said last week that most of us have heard that our region needs a hospitality training program.
She said that is in the works. At the January A.C.P. meeting, Jeanine Bishop will lead a discussion on that issue.
Moody said Bishop wears many hats in community programs and one of those is hospitality training.
She will offer a presentation by, and discussion about, the Mountainview Hospitality Academy in Fort Davis of which she is a co-founder.
The meeting will be at the Hotel Parker west of Alpine at 5:30 Wednesday evening.
Moody said this is an important development for business owners, workers, students, locals and visitors alike.

The tiny town of Valentine between Marfa and Van Horn will host the 12 th Annual Valentine in Valentine next month. The call it a “West Texas Palooza, rain, shine, snow or swelter”
Melissa Hope Gardner told us she will be back at the Mercantile this year on February 17 and headliner is Jimmie Vaughan.
She said Sheverb and The Pulpit Ramblers and The Pecos River Band and Primo y Beebe from Marfa also will perform from 2 to 10.
Jimmie Vaughn is an American blues rock guitarist and singer, four-time Grammy-winner and the brother of the late Texas blues guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughan.
Jimmie most recently toured with Eric Clapton and was also the guitarist from the American blues band the Fabulous Thunderbirds.

The next Sul Ross Small Business Development Center training event will be from 10:30 to noon Wednesday.
Setting Up Your Marketing for 2024 will cover marketing on a small scale, which could be tough.
In this training, award winning entrepreneur and marketer Stephanie Scheller will break down the most common mistakes to avoid in 2024.
She will cover the key to great marketing in today’s crowded marketplace and how to put together a marketing plan that works for small business budgets.

City Director of Building Services Andrew Devaney has reminded us of the importance of installing and maintaining smoke alarms in homes and businesses.
He notes that when there is a fire, the smoke spreads quickly, setting off alarms and giving us time to get out safely.
A smoke alarm should be in every bedroom, outside each sleeping area and on every level of a home, including the basement.
And Devaney warns it is important to replace batteries at least once a year and check alarms monthly.
In testing, if the alarm “chirps,” it tells you the battery is getting low. They don’t do much good with dead batteries.

El director de Servicios de Construcción de la ciudad, Andrew Devaney, nos recordó la importancia de instalar y mantener alarmas de humo en hogares y negocios.
Señala que cuando hay un incendio, el humo se propaga rápidamente, lo que activa las alarmas y nos da tiempo para salir de forma segura.
Debe haber una alarma de humo en cada dormitorio, fuera de cada área para dormir y en cada nivel de la casa, incluido el sótano.
Y Devaney advierte que es importante reemplazar las baterías al menos una vez al año y revisar las alarmas mensualmente.
Durante las pruebas, si la alarma “suena”, le indica que la batería se está agotando. No sirven de mucho con las baterías agotadas.
