Good evening, today is Tuesday, January 11th, and I’m Hector Montemayor-Perez.
Former Jeff Davis County Judge George Emmitt Grubb, Jr., and his wife Patricia died within five days of each other this month.
Judge Grubb died January 4 at age 79 and Patricia “Pat” Maureen Cunningham Grubb died Sunday at age 75.
He was born on July 7, 1942, and lived on various ranches until 1959 when the family moved to Fort Davis where he graduated from high school in 1960.
After two years at New Mexico State, he went to work at McDonald Observatory as a runner and later became Physical Plant supervisor where he was employed for 35 years.
He later graduated from Sul Ross State University with a major in Industrial Arts and minor in Business Administration.
George was active in numerous law enforcement, civic and religious positions and his political career included Jeff Davis County justice of the peace and later county Judge
He served in that, his “dream job,” for 14 years.
He married Linda Jean Roach in 1962 and they had two daughters. He then married Patricia McChristian on August 24, 1990, and they had three more children.
Pat was born on Christmas Day, 1946, in Nashville, Kansas, and was raised in Zenda, Kansas where she graduated from high school in 1964.
After high school she moved to Larned (larnd), Kansas where she worked at several establishments.
She married Dennis Dee McCammond on December 2, 1967, and they had two girls.
Dennis died on December 31, 1969, and she later married Douglas Clark McChristian and they had a boy.
She and Doug later were divorced and she married George Grubb on August 24, 1990.
Other survivors include 13 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Both George and Pat will be honored at a celebration of life service at Fort Davis High School Auditorium at 2 p.m. Wednesday with burial at Hillcrest Cemetery.

The Alpine Downtown Association is looking to restructure its goals after a spirited discussion debating whether to shut down or continue.
The meeting began with Dave Dumas motioning to disband the association and give current funds to another federally tax-exempt organization.
A lack of volunteers willing to serve as officer was cited as the main problem.
The Alpine Chamber of Commerce and the Pilot Club folded earlier because of the same issue.
And that was the reason the Texas Cowboy Poetry Gathering was discontinued two years ago. Fortunately the new Lone Star Gathering picked it up.
The A.D.A. ultimately decided to discuss whether to refocus on ways to make the organization more meaningful to the business community.
Conley Rasor is the new President, Carol Fairly is vice president, Jim Street is secretary and Rick Stephens remains treasurer.
The next meeting is scheduled for 1 p.m. February 9 at the Alpine Visitor Center.

Faith Boultinghouse from Fort Davis F.F.A. ran with all the lamb grand champion awards including fine wool, cross and medium wool.
Kaitlyn Wiggins from Alpine won the Reserve Champion awards for cross and fine wool while Alexa Baeza from Presidio won reserve champion for medium wool.
In the goat results, Shaun Foster won grand champion market goat, light medium weight and medium weight division champion.
Kylie Maroney won reserve goat champion and champion in the light weight and heavy weight division with a reserve champion in the lightweight division.
Boultinghouse had a good showing in the goat series as well winning reserve champion in the light medium, medium and heavy weight goat divisions.
