Good evening, today is Monday, February 7th, and I’m Hector Montemayor-Perez.
The city of Alpine has released a public service announcement about the importance of having pets microchipped with a collar and tag.
A microchip along with a collar and tag are the best ways to ensure you will be reunited with your pet if they go missing.
A microchip is a non-removable form of identification. It is about the size of a grain of rice that contains a personal identification number that stays with your pet for its lifetime
Although a microchip is not a G.P.S. tracker, if your pet is lost it would allow a veterinary clinic or animal shelter to identify your pet if it’s brought in.
Make sure that if you ever move or change your phone number you contact the company the microchip came from and have your information updated.
In Alpine, city ordinances require that all dogs and cats living withing city limits to have a microchip.
You may either have your animal microchipped by your veterinarian or you can have your pet microchipped for 15 dollars at the Alpine Animal Services Shelter.
To schedule with the Alpine Animal services call ahead of time at 837-9030, to schedule an appointment to have it done Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. or 2 to 6 p.m.
The Rio Grande Council of Governments is looking for input on their Region 14 Upper Rio Grande Flood Plan.
A survey is available for citizens in our area to help better understand flooding issues in parts of 23 counties across West Texas.
Survey responses are meant to help Texas more effectively allocate resources to reduce flooding impacts.
In addition, an open house-style public meeting is scheduled for Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Presidio Activity Center on 1400 East O’Reilly Street.
Although no formal presentation will be given at that meeting, the public will be able to review exhibits and provide their feedback to planners, engineers and others.

A brand-new Wine and Beef fest will take place in Alpine May 27 through the 29 presented by Alpine’s Artwalk.
The Spirits of the West Wine and Beef fest will showcase signature beef bites from local beef companies, handpicked Texas wineries and distilleries and several local artists.
The event will take place on 6th street between Holland and Avenue E with a limited V.I.P. preview from 5-9 p.m. to kick off the event Friday, May 27.
General admission will be that Saturday and Sunday May 28-29 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. with a Saturday morning 5-K fun run.

A Texas Mountain Trail passport is available to residents and tourists wanting to explore the Texas Mountain Region from South County to El Paso.
The passport can be picked up at the Alpine and Marfa Visitors Centers, the Fort Davis Chamber of Commerce and the Big Bend visitors kiosks in Marathon and Study Butte.
The passport highlights 25 historic sites, attractions and destinations within our six-county region where you can get stamps for visiting.
If you collect at least 20 stamps you could win prizes and be entered into a drawing for a weekend getaway in the Texas Mountain Trail region.
To receive the gift and be entered in the drawing, you’ll have to mail your passport to Texas Mountain Trail Region, P.O. Box 1884, Alpine, Texas, 79831.
After verification of 20 or more stamps and collection of contact information your passport will be mailed back to you as a keepsake along with the prize.
