Good evening, today is Thursday, February 4th, and I’m Hector Montemayor-Perez.
Sul Ross State University along with Department of State Health Services Nomi Health will have another Covid-19 vaccine drive next Thursday.
The event will be in the room downstairs at the Pete P Gallego Center known as the “Fishbowl.”
Participants should use the parking lot accessible through Entrance One along Highway 90.
Pfizer and Moderna first, second and booster vaccines will be available to those 12 and over.
Those attending for a second or booster should bring their Centers for Disease Control Vaccination card. No appointment is necessary.
Vaccines for those 5 to 11 will not be provided at this event.
And Sul Ross has announced its 2022 Alumni Gala along with its inductees set for Saturday, March 26, at the Pete P. Gallego Center.
The 2022 class will be inducted alongside the class of 2020, which had their induction postponed by Covid restrictions.
Inductees into the Athletics Hall of Honor include Karen Gillis-Young, Stacey Martin, Malcolm Moerbe and the 2004 Sweet Sixteen Men’s Basketball team.
Distinguished Alumni are Baldemar Garza and Ace Alan Cozzalio posthumously. Wayne Thorp will receive the Slinging’ Sammy Baugh Award for Outstanding Service.
The 2020 Hall of Honor class includes Joel Bellinger, Kay Whitley, Dan Dunagan, A.C. Lex posthumously and the 1965 Lone Star Conference Champion Football team.
Dr. Joe Priest and Larry Hill will be honored as Distinguished Alumni while Dr. Lesley Casarez will be recognized as Distinguished Young Alumnus.

The tenth annual celebration of Valentine’s in Valentine will be from 4 to 10 p.m. Saturday, February 12, at the Old Mercantile.
Performances will include Junior Brown, Los Pecadores, Grand Tourists and special guest will be Chad Richard.
The Alpine Christian School will host its annual Starry Knight Auction from 6 to 11 p.m. Saturday, February 12, at the Alpine Civic Center.
The Starry Knight serves as the school’s annual fundraiser and includes a dinner, silent auction and dance.
For those who cannot attend Starry Knight in person, the school offers online bidding on all auction items.
Items will be available for pick up the next morning from Alpine Civic Center or on Monday, February 14, from the Alpine Christian School at 1901 Loop Drive.

With a candidate forum and Republican County judge candidates on Betse Esparza’s “Hear Me Out” Show on KVLF, another event has been scheduled.
A Meet and Greet for Greg Henington, one of three Republican candidates for county judge will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the B.B.T. Community Room at 808 N. 8th Street.
The Democrats running for nomination to that office will be on “Hear me Out” next week.
The Brewster County Sheriff’s department will host a property sale of seven tracts of land in Alpine at 10 a.m. March 1 at the South Door of the Brewster County Courthouse.
