Good evening, today is Wednesday, February 2nd, and I’m Hector Montemayor-Perez.
James F. Dyer the Second died at home January 28 surrounded by loved ones at the age of 92.
He was born November 2, 1929, and attended Sul Ross State University where, in 1947, he met the love of his life Jan Williams.
They celebrated 70 years of marriage in May last year.
James was a rancher in the Davis Mountains and served as President of the Texas Limousin Association and the National Limousin Board.
He also was a board member of the Fort Davis State Bank for 55 years and chairman of the board for many of those years.
He was inducted into the R.A.S. Rodeo Exes Hall of Fame at Sul Ross in 1994 and was awarded the Foy Proctor Memorial Cowman’s Award of Honor.
He is survived by his wife, two children, a sister, five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

The family asked for memorials to be sent to the Fort Davis Volunteer Fire Department or Davis Mountain Resort Volunteer Fire Department.
An Arctic airmass and associated upper storm system was expected to arrive Wednesday with significant impacts for our area.
A wintry mix of freezing rain, sleet and snow was expected to the north of us Wednesday afternoon before spreading south overnight.
The greatest ice and snow accumulations were expected along and north of Interstate 10 but some precipitation is expected this far south with overnight lows in the teens.
So far, Alpine School District, Brewster County, the City of Alpine and Alpine Christian School all will open late at 10 a.m. and there may be others.
The School District reported only in-town school bus routes will be operated.
Area law enforcement continues to haul in groups of illegal border crossers in our area. Marfa Border Patrol agents arrested a group west of Marfa early Tuesday morning.
The release did not indicate how many were in the group but busts often result in large numbers of migrants.
An Autonomous Surveillance Tower helped these agents track the group and arrest them. All subjects were transferred to the Alpine Border Patrol Station for processing.
The Lone Star Cowboy Poetry Gathering Board has released the winners of this year’s Youth Poetry Contest as part of the next Gathering in Alpine February 18 and 19.
Participants were from Alpine Christian School, school districts in Fort Davis, Marfa, Valentine, Marathon, Pecos-Barstow-Toyah, Terlingua and Sulphur Springs.
Others were Uvalde Classical Academy and Okeechobee Christian Academy along with several home-school students from West Texas and Ohio.
Judges rated a total of 124 entries and awarded up to first, second and third places in five grade categories.
First place winners included homeschooled Madeleine Jarrett of Fort Davis in level one and Kayson Aguiar of Alpine Christian School in level two.
Homeschooled Kaela Baize of Presidio County was first in level three and Noah Alvis of Ohio won level four. Jordan Miller of Valentine I.S.D. won level five. Winners will get trophies and the right to participate live on the first day of the Gathering at Sul Ross State University.
Marathon will have a Fish Fry Fundraiser at the Marathon Community Center at 102 Northeast 2nd Street at 6 p.m. Saturday, February 19.
The public is invited to enjoy the Fish Fry followed by an auction then a dance to the music of Justin Treviño.
