The Big Bend Chapter of the Native Society of Texas in conjunction with the Texas Master Naturalist Tierra Grande Chapter, Rio Grande Joint Venture and others are in the process of creating a pollinator garden at the Public Library in Alpine.
They are holding a fundraiser and silent auction to support this effort at The Ritchey in Alpine Saturday from 4 to 6 pm. Everyone is invited. There will be music, beverages, a food truck and the silent auction.
Also, Chain Stitch by Dana Falconberry. Bring your jacket, jeans, shirts, tablecloth, handkerchief or any apparel item you would like embroidered with a beautiful native plant design. There are several native plant motifs to choose from.
Another film crew will be in town this weekend and they are scouting for local townspeople who might be interested in being paid as background actors for a film taking place in Marathon and nearby areas.
Michael Druck Casting is currently casting for the feature film, Bethesda. Shooting dates are March 3rd and 4th . The pay rate is $100.00 per day and the filming will be in Marathon. The City of Alpine will be hosting a one day hiring event on Saturday, March 8, from 9-2 pm at the City of Alpine Civic Center. They are looking for passionate individuals to fill over ten positions. The Fort Davis Fire Station hosted the 17 th Annual Mile High Fire/Rescue School.
There were over 70 volunteer firefighters from 19 different Texas volunteer fire departments, including Alpine. Courses in the three-day school included Electric Battery Awareness, Ropes Rescue, Emergency Vehicle Drivers Training, Wildland Certification, 8 Function ICS, Fire Hose, Hazard Material Awareness, Smoke Reading and Fire Pump Operations. The Fort Davis Volunteer Department hosts the school every year.
Fire Chief Pat Olivas said it was a great turnout this year and they are already planning next year’s event.
Brewster County Sheriff’s Office is hosting a property sale at a Sheriff’s Sale at the Courthouse in Alpine on March 4 beginning at 2:00 pm. The sheriff or his agent will sell the property to the highest bidder for cash upon oral bids under the rules governing the auction sales generally.
The bid starts at the amount of the opening bid set out opposite each tract, and no bid of less than this figure will be accepted by the officer conducting the sale.
This property is being sold for taxes, and all sales are made subject to redemption within six months after date deed filed, unless the property is a residence homestead or designated for agricultural use when the tax suit was filed.
