La Frontera Research Initiative at Sul Ross State University will take a key role in studying the next full solar eclipse when it appears April 8 around Eagle Pass.
It is leading the educational effort along with NASA, the National Science Foundation, the National Solar Observatory and several other scientific research institutes.
A full solar eclipse will darken the skies above Eagle Pass for nearly four and half minutes on April 8.
The research institute is charged with conducting education research and implementation of best practices to improve STEM literacy through culturally responsive teaching and learning.
Its director, Dr. Jennifer Miller-Ray, will lead four Citizen Continental-American Telescopic Eclipse teams in Kerrville, Boerne, Uvalde and Eagle Pass.
They will be at the southernmost tip of the Path of Totality in the U.S.
The Big Bend Arts Council has scheduled another R-3 show, for Repurpose, Reuse and Recycle, with show date from Thursday to April 16 at the Gallery on the Square.
A reception with the show will be from 5 to 7 Friday, also at the Gallery on the Square at 115 West Holland Avenue.
Arts Council members will be able to show one or two entries for five dollars. Non-members will pay 30 dollars but that also includes membership fees.
Acceptable media must use recycled materials. They must be 70 percent repurposed, Reused or Recycled and can include mixed media, paintings, sculptures, jewelry and collages.

The City of Alpine will have its next monthly bulk pick up next week and residents must schedule their pickup with Texas Disposal Systems before noon Friday.
To schedule a pickup, call Texas Disposal Systems at 837-0845.
Once the pickup has been scheduled, place your bulk items on the curb or right of way directly in front of your home. Do not put anything onto the roadway, in an alley or next to a dumpster.

Alpine High School is offering its One Act Play “Farewell to Galatea,” based on Pygmalion, an ancient Greek comedy.
The play, written by Forest Ainsworth, is a modern-day spin on the old love story that was the basis for the popular Broadway musical comedy, “My Fair Lady.”
It was adapted from a 1913 story by that name by George Bernard Show.
The play with Alpine High School students will be presented at 7:30 Thursday in the Administration Building theater at 704 West Sul Ross Avenue. Admission is free.
Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church Knights of Columbus will have its annual Fish Fry from 5 to 7 Friday or until the fish runs out at the Parish Hall.
On the menu are fried fish, cole slaw, a drink and dessert for 15 dollars a plate, cash or check, paid at the door. Dine in or take out and advance tickets are available. It is to finance charitable causes.
And that’s not the only fish fry on the agenda.
You can support Alpine Public Library and enjoy a catfish dinner prepared by the Alpine American Legion at the Fish Fry Fundraiser from 5 to 7 March 8.
The event will feature live music from the Swifts and A Few Too Many. Tickets are available at Alpine Public Library for 15 dollars each.

Los Caballeros de Colón de la Iglesia Católica Nuestra Señora de la Paz tendrán su Fish Fry anual de 5 a 7 el viernes o hasta que se acabe el pescado en el Salón Parroquial.
En el menú hay pescado frito, ensalada de repollo, bebida y postre por 15 dólares el plato, en efectivo o con cheque, que se paga en puerta. Cene ahi o para llevar, y ya hay boletos anticipados disponibles. Es para financiar causas benéficas.
