Good evening, today is Monday, February 28th, and I’m Hector Montemayor-Perez.
Greg Henington closed off the set of candidate interviews on KVLF Monday stating his case for the Republican Nomination for Brewster County Judge in Tuesday’s primaries.
Henington said his experience in running an Emergency Medical System, a personal business and involvement in the water and hospital districts make him the right candidate for the job.
Henington: “In terms of experience, someone that can take the reins from a financial standpoint and a chief executive standpoint, to manage and budget and operate these programs, I think my background wins that 100 percent.”
Henington’s main concerns include managing the growth in tourism, ensuring a robust E.M.S. system, business development and education at Sul Ross.
Henington: “As you go to the polls, I’d say look at the requirements of a county judge and look at my qualifications. I think they dovetail nicely.”
Henington is running for the Republican nomination against Monty Kimble and Ryan Skelton.
The winner of that race faces the winner in the Democrat primary among Benjamin Barrientes, Oscar Cobos and Mimi Smith in November.
Tuesday’s Primary Election in Texas is where political parties decide who will represent them in the November General Election.
Those who have not already voted early have until 7 p.m. Tuesday to vote in person at their voting precinct.
Precinct one will be at the old food bank, Precinct 2 at the Val Beard office complex, three at the Marathon Community Center and four at the City Council Chambers.
Precinct five and six will be at Panther Junction, seven at the Red Pattillo Community Center and eight at the new Food Pantry at 933 East Gallego.
And filing has closed for elections for the May 1 City of Alpine, Alpine Independent School District and Big Bend Regional Hospital District.
In the only contested city race Amit Rangra and Katherine Eaves square off for mayor.
Councilors Chris Rodriguez in Ward 2 and Martin Sandate in Ward 4 are unopposed for re-election.
For the Alpine School Board, in District 7, incumbent Mary McCallister faces Elpidia Lujan.
In District 5, Incumbent Justin Cross withdrew so that race will be unopposed with Haley Babb as the lone candidate.
For the hospital district, only Chairman S. Buddy Cavness and Vice Chair James “Cuatro” the Fourth have filed so the election will be canceled.
The Alpine Historic Association invites the public to a pre-spring social at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the new Alpine Wine shop at 116 North 5th Street.
Champagne and wine will be served in observance of Fat Tuesday, the traditional name for the day before Ash Wednesday.
Fat Tuesday is more commonly known as Mardi Gras, which is simply Fat Tuesday in French.

The Fort Davis Chamber of Commerce has announced a family barn dance with live music by fiddler Doug Moreland Friday, March 11, at the Kelly Pavilion in Fort Davis.
The event will run from 7 to 10 p.m. with the music starting at 7:30. Although it is free, there is a suggested donation of 10 dollars per person and 25 dollars per family.
There will be free dance lessons and guests can learn the Texas Two-Step and an English Country Dance. Light food and drinks will be available, but it is B.Y.O.B.
