Good evening, today is Thursday, February 23rd, and I’m Hector Montemayor-Perez.
A Memorial Service for Marlow Wall will be at 11:30 Saturday at Nalley-Pickle and Welch Funeral Home Chapel at 3800 North Big Spring in Midland.
He died February 15 at age 42.
Marlow began his career while in middle school at the family business, Dotson Nissan in Alpine.
After college he became an insurance adjuster with Progressive Insurance.
He is preceded death by his parents including Jack and Mollie Dotson. Surviving are his mother Kellie Marie Smith Wall, a son and a daughter.
Alpine Community Projects this week discussed a number of Alpine events and moved forward on plans to find summer children’s activities.
Keith Nixon said a scarcity of activities are available for school-age children and he is exploring a kind of summer camp.
The A.C.P. is a relatively new Alpine non-profit founded by Kirsten Moody.
Alpine Historical Association Founder Abbey Branch said her group plans a Hispanic District program and is working with Sul Ross Associate Theater Producer Marjorie Scott.
It would be a theater presentation with student actors portraying characters in the history of Alpine Hispanic citizens, planned for July 2 on the Fourth of July weekend.
It would be along the lines of its successful Ghost Tours except it would be in one place, in a theater, perhaps one at Sul Ross.
Branch said the A.H.A. also is studying ways to create an Historic District in Alpine.
And A.C.P. again discussed the possibility of creating some kind of nursing facility for Alpine that has been without such facility since 2012.
The Alpine Public Library is hosting a free writer’s workshop with two authors from 10 to 12 Saturday.
Authors Chaitali Sen and Kirk Wilson will run the Saturday workshop after their appearing at Front Street Books Thursday.
Sen is the author of short story collection “A New Race of Men from Heaven,” which won the Mary McCarthy Prize for Short Fiction.
Wilson is the author of “Out of Season” and has been awarded the National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship, the Elixir Press Fiction Award and more.
Participants should bring something to take notes with at the Saturday workshop. For more information, call the library at 837 2621.
The Alpine Police Department is hosting its Bicycle Rodeo at the Kokernot Park Softball Field Parking Lot from 9 to noon Saturday.
Children ages 5 and older can engage in fun and challenging bike activities, learn the A.B.C. bike check and more.
Children will also receive bike helmets, snacks and beverages all for free.
And the Texas Department of Health Services will inspect Child Car Seats.

Alpine’s next Community Clean Up event will be from 9 to noon Saturday to benefit the west entrance to the city.
Volunteers will meet at the Dollar General parking lot at 105 north 15th Street to clean up streets in that area.
Keep Alpine Beautiful is partnering with the Sul Ross Women’s Soccer Team.
