Good evening, today is Tuesday, February 1st, and I’m Hector Montemayor-Perez.
Services will be Friday for Rudolfo “Rudy” Garcia, who died in Arlington January 21 at age 65.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Alpine Memorial Funeral Home and Praying of the Most Holy Rosary will be at 7 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church with Father Pablo Matta officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Fort Davis.
Rudy was born in Pecos on August 2, 1956, and was a graduate of Pecos High School.
He married the “love of his life” Frances Hartnett Garcia on September 8, 2001, in Marfa and worked for Texas Disposal Systems.
Among other chores, he worked at Magoo’s as the “menudo man” and did landscaping.
Rudy is preceded in death by his baby Angel Garcia, his parents and two brothers. Surviving are his wife, two sisters and a step-grandson.

Yesterday at this time, we told of the cold snap later this week but indicated it did not include much precipitation.
Now the National Weather Service Midland Station is encouraging West Texans to measure upcoming snow that may hit the area.
To accurately measure snowfall and report it to the National Weather Service, you’ll need a ruler or yard stick, a 24 inch by 24 inch white board and a flag.
Find an open area away from tall objects but sheltered from wind and set up before snow begins by putting the board out and marking it with the flag.
After the snow, measure once daily at the same time every day recording the total to the nearest tenth of an inch.
After measuring, place the white board on top of the snow for the next day’s reading.
Measure as soon as the snow stops to avoid lower totals due to melting, settling and drifting.
Finally, send your report on social media or to weather.gov.
Snow chances as of Tuesday were shown as 50 percent Wednesday and 60 percent Thursday.
The Texas State University System has received more than 60 million dollars in state support for Sul Ross State University.
This including a record for capital projects in the university’s two service regions.
It includes 26-and-a-half million dollars toward renovations of Fine Arts Buildings in Alpine.
Other projects for the Sul Ross system include 33 million for multi-purpose education buildings at Rio Grande College and one million in recurring state general revenue.
T.S.U.S. institutions will receive more than 422 million in capital project support under Senate Bill 52.
This capital construction assistance bill was passed by the Legislature in the third special session of 2021.
Sul Ross State University, with campuses in Alpine, Del Rio, Eagle Pass and Uvalde, has been a member of the Texas State University System since 1917.
An effort was made recently to transfer the university system to Texas A&M but others, including outgoing President Pete Gallego, opposed that move.
The system’s seven member institutions educate more than 87,000 students on 13 campuses from the Big Bend Region to the Gulf Coast.
The City of Alpine Animal Services will offer Pet Care Classes on a monthly basis at the City Council Chambers at 803 West Holland Avenue starting February 24.
Classes are available to anyone for free between 1:30 and 4:30 p.m.
