Services for Usbaldo “Baldo” Ybarra of San Angelo will be Friday with viewing from noon to 2 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. He died Sunday in Fort Stockton at 84 years old.
Praying of the Most Holy Rosary will be at 2 with Mass to follow. Father Alfonso Coronado Sanchez will serve as Celebrant
“Baldo” was born in Manuel Benavides, Chihuahua, and worked for Reliance Medical Equipment.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters. A brother survives.

March still is nearly two weeks away but “March” winds have started in much of the area. Strong winds can happen any time of the year but March is famous for them.
The weatherman predicted mild temperatures for Wednesday but with winds gusting to 40 miles per hour. It was to be cooler Thursday but with wind gusts to as much as 50 miles per hour.
Jeff Davis County Fire Marshall Roy Hurley posted on Facebook that we are at that time of the year here in West Texas.
He warned all to be safe and to remember fire with this kind of conditions can spread rapidly. Be extra careful with any kind of outdoor fires.
Rangeland fires are particularly likely right now with very dry conditions and they can cause significant damage.
Early voting is underway throughout Texas the March 1 Primary Election and Democrat Party County Chair Mary Bell Lockhart was on KVLF to emphasize the importance of voting.
Lockhart: “The goal of the whole thing is to get the voice of the people heard. This is really the way they do it, so we want everyone to vote.”
You can vote early by mail if you are 65 or older, are sick or disabled, will be out of the county on election day, are expected to give birth or are confined in jail but otherwise eligible.
Lockhart said that in 2018 Brewster County had 285 people, 6.86 percent of the population, vote by mail. By 2020 that percentage was doubled to 12.6 percent, translating to 618 votes by mail.
Lockhart also said that voting by mail can be more convenient for many people, among other advantages.
Lockhart: “Because the ballot’s long, you can sit down in your living room and get information about the people that are running. And then you can decide ‘Oh I’m thinking of this person’ and then you can decide who you want to vote for.”
Apart from online tracking to make sure your vote is counted, the Early Voting Ballot Board goes through the mail ballots to confirm all information is legitimate.
To apply for mail-in ballots for early voting in Brewster County, call elections administrator Lora Naussbaum at 837 6230. The deadline for that is Friday.

Alpine’s Artwalk has announced the first Annual Spirits of the West, Wine and Beef Fest scheduled for May 27 to 29.
This new event will showcase signature beef bites from local beef companies to honor the area’s long tradition of cattle ranching.
In addition, handpicked Texas wineries and distilleries will provide a homegrown pairing to highlight West Texas gourmet fares.
Several hand-selected local artists will participate in the celebration on 6th Street between Holland and Avenue E.
A V.I.P. preview with limited availability from 5 to -9 p.m. Friday, May 27, will kick off the event.
General admission will be from 10 to 8 Saturday and 10 to 6 Sunday. In addition to the evening festivities, Artwalk will host a 5K fun run at 8 Saturday morning.
