The Small Business Development Center at Sul Ross has several upcoming training opportunities for business owners this week.
The first training is tomorrow morning (TUESDAY), from 10 to 11. In this one-hour webinar, you’ll learn about leadership and the key traits that inspire trust, respect and loyalty in a team.
The next training will be tomorrow from 11 a.m. to noon. In this course, you’ll learn how to build a professional website for your small business. Then, on Wednesday, Dec. 10, the SBDC hosts a training on identifying counterfeit currency, how to prevent scams, and being efficient when handling cash. This training will be from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday.

This week, the Big Bend Hospital District will hold its next meeting.
On the agenda is an update on purchasing a mammogram machine and details on the next mobile mammogram screenings, which are set to take place between Jan. 15 and 18.
The hospital district meets Wednesday, Dec. 10 at 3 p.m. at the Marfa Public Library.

On Wednesday, Terlingua-area business owners are hosting a forum to network and share ideas.
The meeting takes place Dec. 10 at 6 p.m. at the Boat House in Terlingua. All community members are welcome and businesses or organizations are encouraged to discuss what they’re bringing to the Terlingua area and the Big Bend.

The Presidio County Sheriff’s Office is holding a toy drive until the end of the week – Friday, Dec. 12.
The department is looking for donations of toys, games, puzzles, dolls and craft kits. All donations must be wrapped and in good condition.
Donations can be dropped off at the sheriff’s office, located at 320. N. Highland.

This weekend, the city of Alpine holds their annual hometown Christmas parade.
If you’re interested in being part of the parade, the lineup begins between 5 and 5:30 at city hall and there’s no registration required, just get in line.
The parade kicks off Saturday, Dec. 13 at 6 p.m. The parade route will go down Holland Ave, then turn on 2nd street and end at the Visitor’s Center.
This year’s parade will celebrate Alpine Police Chief Darrell Losoya, who’s retiring after decades of public service with the city.
At the end of the parade, there will be music from the Big Bend Community Band, refreshments, pictures with Santa, and float winners will be announced.

Next week, Alpine High School will host a Christmas concert for jazz band, color guard, and concert band.
The concert begins Monday, Dec. 15 at 6:30 p.m. in the high school gym. To attend, bring a food donation for the food pantry or an unwrapped toy for Brown Santa.
The Christmas concert is the perfect time to see your Alpine Bucks display their talents and celebrate this time of year and the holiday.

The city of Alpine will hold its next monthly bulk pick up during the first full week of the new year.
You can get rid of large items like furniture, mattresses, appliances and yard waste – but must first schedule a pickup. Each household is limited to 5 items or 3 cubic yards worth items to be picked up.
Residents will have from Monday, Dec. 29 to Friday, Jan. 2 to schedule their pickup for the following week.

La primera capacitación es mañana por la mañana (MARTES), de 10 a 11. En este seminario web de una hora, aprenderá sobre liderazgo y los rasgos clave que inspiran confianza, respeto y lealtad en un equipo.
La próxima capacitación será mañana de 11:00 a. m. a 12:00 p. m. En este curso, aprenderá a crear un sitio web profesional para su pequeña empresa. El miércoles 10 de diciembre, el SBDC ofrecerá una capacitación sobre cómo identificar billetes falsos, prevenir estafas y ser eficiente al manejar efectivo. Esta capacitación se realizará el miércoles de 10:00 a 11:00 a. m.

Esta semana, el Distrito Hospitalario de Big Bend celebrará su próxima reunión.
En la agenda se incluye una actualización sobre la compra de una máquina para mamografías y detalles sobre las próximas mamografías móviles, que se realizarán entre el 15 y el 18 de enero.

La Oficina del Sheriff del Condado de Presidio está realizando una colecta de juguetes hasta el final de la semana, el viernes 12 de diciembre.
El departamento busca donaciones de juguetes, juegos, rompecabezas, muñecas y kits de manualidades. Todas las donaciones deben estar envueltas y en buen estado.

Este fin de semana, la ciudad de Alpine celebrará su desfile navideño anual.
Si le interesa participar en el desfile, la fila comienza entre las 5:00 y las 5:30 p. m. en el ayuntamiento y no es necesario registrarse, solo haga fila.
El desfile comienza el sábado 13 de diciembre a las 6:00 p. m. El recorrido del desfile recorrerá la avenida Holland, girará en la calle 2 y finalizará en el Centro de Visitantes.
El desfile de este año rendirá homenaje al jefe de policía de Alpine, Darrell Losoya, quien se jubila tras décadas de servicio público en la ciudad.
Al final del desfile, habrá música de la Banda Comunitaria de Big Bend, refrigerios, fotos con Santa Claus y se anunciarán los ganadores de las carrozas.

La próxima semana, la Escuela preparatoria de Alpine ofrecerá un concierto navideño con la banda de jazz, la escolta y la banda de concierto.
El concierto comienza el lunes 15 de diciembre a las 6:30 en el gimnasio de la escuela. Para asistir, traigan una donación de alimentos para la despensa de alimentos o un juguete sin envolver para Brown Santa.
El concierto navideño es el momento perfecto para ver a los Bucks de Alpine demostrar su talento y celebrar esta época del año y la festividad.

La ciudad de Alpine realizará su próxima recolección mensual de artículos voluminosos durante la primera semana completa del nuevo año.
Puede deshacerse de artículos grandes como muebles, colchones, electrodomésticos y desechos de jardín, pero primero debe programar una recolección. Cada hogar tiene un límite de 5 artículos o 3 yardas cúbicas para recoger.
Los residentes tendrán del lunes 29 de diciembre al viernes 2 de enero para programar su recolección para la semana siguiente.
