Transcript:

Good evening, today is Monday, December 5th, and I’m Hector Montemayor-Perez.

A Memorial for Dorothy Mai Leavitt of Pilot Point will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Alpine. She died November 28 at age 92.

Dorothy grew up in Murfreesboro Tennessee and moved to Alpine with her husband William “Bill” Carr Leavitt in 1955.

She was a public-school teacher and later became registrar and dean of admissions at Sul Ross State University.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers and a sister. Surviving are three sons, ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alpine Humane Society, the Sunshine House or the West of the Pecos Republican Women’s Club.

Precinct Two County Commissioner Sarah Allen Colando survived a recount of the November 8 election when the vote totals were unchanged.

Democrat Colando polled 572 votes, or 50.6% and 13 more than Republican Challenger Mark Chiles with 559.

County Elections Administrator Lara Nussbaum said the Saturday recount came up with the exact same vote totals as that on Election Day.

The Alpine City Council meets twice a month except in December because of the holidays and that meeting will be Tuesday.

The agenda has a dozen overall items, including eight in the action agenda item, and boards and commissions are included in three of them.

After a year of study, the council has adopted new policies and deleted both the Airport Board and the Transportation Committee.

The first discussion will be part of City Attorney Rod Ponton’s seven-item report on a variety of topics.

In the consent agenda is the appointment of former Mayor Andy Ramos to the Parks and Recreation Board.

Among eight action items is a resolution to appoint city council members as ex-officio members of boards and commissions.

Ex-officio means they attend and take part in discussions but have no vote.

Council meets at 5:30 Tuesday evening in the Council Chambers at 803 West Holland Avenue.

The Alpine Public Library is hosting Computer Literacy Classes from 1:15 to 3 p.m. Saturdays at the library.

Participants will learn how to operate a computer, work with Microsoft Word and use the internet and emails.

Space is limited to eight spots per session but there will be time for more personalized help at the end of each session.

To sign up call the Alpine Public Library at 837-2621 or email desk@alpinepubliclibrary.org.
