Services will be Saturday for Paula “;Polly” Moya, also known as “Wuela” to her grandchildren, who died November 24 at Midland Memorial Hospital.
Visitation will be at 9 followed by a Prayer Service at 10:30 and concluding with a Mass at 11 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. Polly was born in Alpine on October 3, 1956, and worked nurturing the elderly at Alpine Nursing Home. She met and married the love of her life “Moya” in 1983 and they spent 22 years together before his passing. In addition to her family and career, Polly had a love for music, especially country and Spanish genres. She was preceded in death by her husband, two granddaughters and a brother. Surviving are two sons, two grandchildren, a sister and a brother. Gifts and memorials may be left at Alpine Memorial Funeral Home.
Historic Alpine’s Christmas in Alpine will be packed with activities this weekend, starting with the Wassail Crawl in Historic Downtown from 4 to 8:30 Thursday.
Participants can stroll through Alpine’s charming streets, visiting local shops, galleries and restaurants while enjoying festive wassail, a traditional warm spiced cider.
Locations will include Historic Murphy Street, Holland Avenue and Downtown 5 th Street.
Sip on heartwarming recipes, discover unique gifts and revel in the festive atmosphere and, above all, shop locally.
The next day is the First Lady’s Tree Lighting ceremony at Sul Ross State University at 5:30 Friday.
The festivities will kick off with the traditional lighting of the Sul Ross State University Christmas Tree, hosted by the Sul Ross First Lady.
The Big Bend Chorale Christmas Concert will be at The United Methodist Church, 208 East Sul Ross Avenue at 7:30.
Close the evening with a beautiful Christmas concert by the Big Bend Chorale, bringing together voices from across the region to celebrate the season in song.
And Saturday from 11 to 4 is the Historic Alpine Holiday Tour of Homes Navidad en Los Adobes.

Author Larry Francell of Fort Davis has introduced his new book “My Summer Vacation: The Victorio Campaign Journal of Colonel Robert Grierson, 1880.”
His latest history book takes you through Fort Davis and beyond in a comprehensive look at what happened during the Victorio Campaign in the summer of 1880.
Colonel Benjamin Henry Grierson of the Tenth Cavalry describes the stand he made at Rattlesnake Springs in July 1880 during that summer’s campaign.
Accompanying his father was son Robert, a bright, articulate young man who, in search of adventure, documented that summer with his father chasing Victorio through West Texas.
Francell has written several other books about the region plus numerous articles on local history and museum operations.
