Good evening, today is Thursday, December 29th, and I’m Hector Montemayor-Perez.
The long-discussed noise ordinance has taken a major step toward reality with a public hearing Tuesday at the regular City Council meeting.
It mentions some controversial noises like vehicle emissions but most of the proposed ordinance deals with loud music.
Specifically, it proposes to regulate noise and its potential to become a public nuisance.
The bill would set decibel limits that vary with time of day, lower during the late evening and night and higher in daylight hours.
The hearing will be an agenda item at the first City Council Meeting of the new year at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the City Council Chambers at 803 East Holland Avenue.

In its “Year-end review,” the Alpine Avalanche reports National Geographic the “Best of the World 2023” list honors Big Bend National Park.
The feature is themed around travel destinations that leverage the benefits of tourism to strengthen their local communities and environments.
Big Bend National Park was selected in the nature category.
The “Best of the World 2023” list for the year ahead celebrates destinations and travel experiences and people within it, grouped by category.
A $400,000 investment into the Pueblo Nuevo Park in Alpine is set to begin this new year with plenty of park improvements planned.
Alpine is the recipient of a 50/50 non-urban outdoor grant, receiving more than $200,000 from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, with the city investing the other half.
City Manager Megan Antrim said the park has taken a couple years of planning and will take a couple more years to complete.
Antrim: “Texas Parks and Wildlife finally released that grant and said ‘Hey, you have our final blessing.’ So we’d already started putting money aside through our budgeting process. We didn’t have that just sitting around in a bank account. So we’re planned for it, we’re excited and we’re going to get that park actually developed.”
Proposed developments include playground and exercise equipment with shade structures, a pavilion with picnic tables, restrooms, half basketball court, site amenities and more.
It will also improve signage, grills, benches, trash cans, picnic facilities, walkways, landscaping, irrigation, and site preparation.
Antrim said it’ll be great for the Southeastern side of Alpine to enjoy the outdoors without having to drive or walk relatively far away.
Antrim: “We hope that it will help that area of our community. Get their children out there, and for residents to get out there and enjoy their spot of Alpine.”
Texas Parks and Wildlife is hosting first-day-of-the-year events through different Texas State Parks to celebrate the new year and a century of parks being open.
Big Bend Ranch State Park is hosting first day hikes New Year’s Day at five dollars for adults or free with park entry or for children.
The first hike will be from 8 to 12 at the West Contrabando Trailhead and will go through the Fresno Divide Trail, a moderate-to-difficult 6.4 mile hike.
The second hike will be from 10 to 1:30 at the Sauceda Ranger Station and go through the Fresno West Rim trail, an easy-to-moderate five-mile hike.
Davis Mountains State Park also will have a first day hike at the Interpretive center to hike the Skyline Drive Trail.
That hike is free for campers, Indian Lodge guests, day users with a permit or for the carload with Texas State Park Pass. Otherwise, the daily entrance fee is six dollars per adult.
For all hikes, make sure to bring water, snacks, plenty of clothing layers, hiking boots or shoes and a hat.
If hiking isn’t your thing, then perhaps a first day swim at Balmorhea State Park is more your speed, where the water is a constant 72 to 75 degrees year-round.
Visitors will dive off the diving boards at 9 and it is free with park admission or for children 12 and under. Other adults pay seven dollars each.

La ordenanza de ruido discutida durante mucho tiempo ha dado un gran paso hacia la realidad con una audiencia pública el martes en la reunión ordinaria del Concejo Municipal.

El proyecto de ley establecería límites de decibelios que varían con la hora del día, más bajos durante la tarde y la noche y más altos durante el día.

En su “Revisión de fin de año”, Alpine Avalanche informa que la lista “Mejor del Mundo 2023” de National Geographic honra el Parque Nacional Big Bend.
La función tiene como tema los destinos de viaje que aprovechan los beneficios del turismo para fortalecer sus comunidades y entornos locales.
El Parque Nacional Big Bend fue seleccionado en la categoría de naturaleza.
La lista “Lo mejor del mundo 2023” para el próximo año celebra destinos y experiencias de viaje y personas dentro de ellos, agrupados por categoría.
Una inversión de 400,000 dólares en el Parque Pueblo Nuevo en Alpine está programada para comenzar este nuevo año con muchas mejoras planificadas para el parque.
Alpine recibió una subvención al aire libre no urbana 50/50, recibió más de 200,000 dólares del Departamento de Parques y Vida Silvestre de Texas, y la ciudad invirtió la otra mitad.
La administradora de la ciudad, Megan Antrim, dijo que el parque ha tomado un par de años de planificación y tomará un par de años más para completarse.
Los desarrollos propuestos incluyen un área de juegos y equipos de ejercicio con estructuras de sombra, un pabellón con mesas de picnic, baños, media cancha de baloncesto, servicios en el sitio y más.
