Good evening, today is Monday, December 12th, and I’m Hector Montemayor-Perez.
Jaime Esparza of El Paso has been sworn in as the United States Attorney for the Western District of Texas.
In that capacity, Esparza is responsible for prosecuting violations of federal law and representing the federal government in civil litigation where the United States is a party.
The district includes 68 counties and serves more than six million residents.
It employs more than 300 people and has staffed offices in Alpine, Austin, Del Rio, El Paso, Midland, Waco and San Antonio.
Family Magic Night is still going through the weekend at the Granada Theatre with shows until Sunday every night.
This month’s Animal Services Public Service Announcement is about deer safety as we approach the time of year with more deer activity.
Calls for deer hit by car usually are in the early morning, the evenings and at night when they are hard to see.
Alpine Animal Services said the main areas in town that they see hit deer are Highway 90, Highway 118 and Loop Road.
Always drive the speed limit and slow down at dawn, dusk and after dark. The faster you are going the harder it will be to stop or avoid a deer in the road.
And if you see one deer, there probably are others. At night, look for their glowing eyes on the side of the road.
If you do have a collision with a deer, it is important to call Animal Services immediately, especially if the deer is still in the road.
It’s no secret that Santa Claus will make his annual visit bringing toys to boys and girls later this month.
For your younger set to tell the Jolly Old Elf what’s on their wish list, the Big Bend Amateur Radio Club elves will be stationed in front of True Value Wednesday.
Children can pass along their wishes and tell whether they’ve been naughty or nice from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday by shortwave radio.

And the Alpine Police Department’s Christmas Parade will be Friday with lineup at 5 p.m. at the Alpine Civic Center.
The parade starts at 5:30 and moves to the Alpine Visitors Center on 3rd Street with the grand finale of a concert by Alpine Community Band under the direction of Chuck Wilson.
Businesses, organizations, families and anyone who wants to be in the parade is invited to participate. No preregistration is required. Just show up.
Sales tax receipts being delivered to area taxing districts that collect the tax were mixed this month, with some up and some down.
The biggest jump in receipts went to Alpine and the Brewster County Emergency Services District, which partially funds Terlingua Fire and E.M.S.
Alpine’s take was up more than 15% to 164-and-a-third thousand dollars and the Terlingua district took in more than 17% more at nearly 55,000.
The other increase was Jeff Davis County with a boost of slightly more than 3% at $9,151.
The City of Presidio posted the largest decrease, off by more than 23% to $34,913.
Marfa got six-and-a-quarter percent less at 63,500 and Brewster County got 3.6% less at 79-and-two-thirds thousand dollars.
Comptroller Glenn Hegar said he is sending more than a billion dollars in tax receipts to cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose districts up 13.4% from last year.
These allocations are based on sales made in October and reported in November by businesses that report tax monthly.

Y el Desfile de Navidad del Departamento de Policía de Alpine será el viernes con la alineación a las 5 p.m. en el Centro Cívico de Alpine.
