Rosendo Andres Hernandez, known affectionately as Andy, has died. He was 62.
Born in Presidio, Andy was a shining light in the lives of his family and friends, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and loyalty.
Andy was a proud graduate of Presidio High School. And shortly after, he embarked on a journey of service to his country by joining the United States Army. His military career took him to Germany, where he dedicated himself wholeheartedly to serving and protecting his nation.
A devoted family man, Andy will be deeply missed by his three children. His love for his family was boundless, and he cherished the moments spent with his five grandchildren.
A man of passions, Andy was known as the #1 Dallas Cowboys fan. His spirited enthusiasm for watching his team play brought him immense joy. Alongside his love for football, he found great happiness in listening to music, and spending time with and caring for his canine best friend “Major” Hernandez.
To honor Andy’s life and legacy, the community is invited to come together for a series of services on Saturday, Dec. 13, at Santa Teresa Catholic Church in Presidio.
The day will begin with a viewing at 9:00 a.m. followed by a prayer service at 10:30 a.m. A Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., to be followed by interment at Haciendita Cemetery with military honors.
As we gather to celebrate the life of Rosendo Andres Hernandez, let us remember the many ways he touched our lives and the warmth he brought to our hearts.

This weekend, the city of Alpine holds their annual hometown Christmas parade.
If you’re interested in being part of the parade, the lineup begins between 5 and 5:30 at city hall.
Heather Yadon with the visitor center spoke with KVLF about the annual tradition. She said there’s no registration required to join the parade.
YADON1: “It is a show up. We’re going to have it if there are two floats, we’re going to have it if there’s 25. So whoever wants to come out can come on, join us at the city hall, civic center – you know, the parking area on the side. We line everybody up and just go for it.” (0:16)
Yadon says anyone is welcomed to join the parade, which will go down Holland Avenue and eventually end at the Visitor’s Center.
This year’s parade will celebrate Alpine Police Chief Darrell Losoya, who’s retiring after decades of public service with the city.
YADON2: “We don’t have a grand marshall at the Christmas parade, because Santa’s always, usually, the grand marshall. And he will be there. But we’re really wanting the community to come out and honor Chief Darrell Lasoya and his wife Belen. (0:13)
At the end of the parade, there will be music from the Big Bend Community Band, refreshments, pictures with Santa, and float winners will be announced.

Next week, Alpine High School will host a Christmas concert for jazz band, color guard, and concert band.
The concert begins Monday, Dec. 15 at 6:30 p.m. in the high school gym. To attend, bring a food donation for the food pantry or an unwrapped toy for Brown Santa.
The Christmas concert is the perfect time to see your Alpine Bucks display their talents and celebrate this time of year and the holiday.

The City of Alpine will hold its next monthly bulk pick up during the first full week of the new year.
You can get rid of large items like furniture, mattresses, appliances and yard waste – but must first schedule a pickup. Each household is limited to 5 items or 3 cubic yards worth items to be picked up.
Residents will have from Monday, Dec. 29 to Friday, Jan. 2 to schedule their pickup for the following week.

Rosendo Andrés Hernández, conocido cariñosamente como Andy, falleció. Tenía 62 años.
Nacido en Presidio, Andy fue una luz brillante en la vida de su familia y amigos, dejando un legado de amor, alegría y lealtad.
Andy se graduó con orgullo de la Preparatoria Presidio. Poco después, emprendió una travesía de servicio a su país al unirse al Ejército de los Estados Unidos. Su carrera militar lo llevó a Alemania, donde se dedicó con todo su corazón a servir y proteger a su nación.
Un hombre de familia dedicado, Andy será profundamente extrañado por sus tres hijos. Su amor por su familia era inmenso y atesoraba los momentos compartidos con sus cinco nietos.
Un hombre apasionado, Andy era conocido como el aficionado número uno de los Dallas Cowboys. Su entusiasmo por ver jugar a su equipo le llenaba de inmensa alegría. Además de su amor por el fútbol americano, encontraba gran felicidad en escuchar música y pasar tiempo con su mejor amigo canino, el Mayor Hernández, y cuidarlo.
Para honrar la vida y el legado de Andy, se invita a la comunidad a reunirse para una serie de servicios el sábado 13 de diciembre en la Iglesia Católica Santa Teresa en Presidio.
El día comenzará con un velatorio a las 9:00 a. m., seguido de un servicio de oración a las 10:30 a. m. Se celebrará una misa a las 11:00 a. m., seguida del entierro en el Cementerio de Haciendita con honores militares.
Al reunirnos para celebrar la vida de Rosendo Andrés Hernández, recordemos las muchas maneras en que tocó nuestras vidas y la calidez que trajo a nuestros corazones.

Este fin de semana, la ciudad de Alpine celebra su desfile navideño anual.
Si te interesa participar, la formación comienza entre las 5:00 y las 5:30 p. m. en el ayuntamiento.
Heather Yadon, del centro de visitantes, habló con KVLF sobre esta tradición anual. Comentó que no es necesario registrarse para participar.
cito: “Es un desfile con mucha gente. Lo haremos si hay dos carrozas, o si hay 25. Así que quien quiera venir puede venir y unirse a nosotros en el ayuntamiento, el centro cívico, en el estacionamiento lateral. Nos formamos todos y ¡listo!”
Yadon dice que todos son bienvenidos a unirse al desfile, que recorrerá la Avenida Holland y terminará en el Centro de Visitantes.
El desfile de este año rendirá homenaje al jefe de policía de Alpine, Darrell Losoya, quien se jubila tras décadas de servicio público en la ciudad.
menciono: No tenemos un gran mariscal en el desfile de Navidad, porque Santa Claus siempre es el gran mariscal. Y estará presente. Pero queremos que la comunidad salga a honrar al jefe Darrell Lasoya y a su esposa Belén.
Al final del desfile, habrá música de la Banda Comunitaria de Big Bend, refrigerios, fotos con Santa Claus y se anunciarán los ganadores de las carrozas.

La próxima semana, la Escuela preparatoris de Alpine ofrecerá un concierto navideño con la banda de jazz, la escolta y la banda de concierto.
El concierto comienza el lunes 15 de diciembre a las 6:30 en el gimnasio de la escuela. Para asistir, traigan una donación de alimentos para la despensa de alimentos o un juguete sin envolver para Brown Santa.
El concierto navideño es el momento perfecto para ver a los Bucks de Alpine demostrar su talento y celebrar esta época del año y la festividad.

La ciudad de Alpine realizará su próxima recolección mensual de artículos voluminosos durante la primera semana completa del nuevo año.
Puede deshacerse de artículos grandes como muebles, colchones, electrodomésticos y desechos de jardín, pero primero debe programar una recolección. Cada hogar tiene un límite de 5 artículos o 3 yardas cúbicas para recoger.
Los residentes tendrán del lunes 29 de diciembre al viernes 2 de enero para programar su recolección para la semana siguiente.
