Good evening, today is Monday, August 29th, and I’m Hector Montemayor-Perez.
Funeral services will be Saturday for Gloria A. Myers of Presidio, who died August 20 at age 88.
Rosary will be at 9:30 a.m., followed by Mass at 10 at St. Teresa Catholic Church with Father Mike Alcuino officiating. Burial will follow at Desert Hills Cemetery.
Gloria was born in Presidio on May 17, 1934, and graduated from Presidio High School.
She married Herbert Myers in Presidio and worked in the family business, Presidio Lumber Yard, until her time of death.
She had been involved as a member and officer in the American Legion Auxiliary and was instrumental in the opening of the public library.
Gloria is preceded in death by her husband, two brothers and three sisters. Surviving are two brothers and three sister.

The Alpine Police Department will host this year’s Night Out at Baines Park at 5th and Gallego Streets in October to connect with the community and show off new technology and efforts.
The department is partnering with non-profit organization Alpine Community Projects to host the potluck-style event.
Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie.
Alpine Police recently ran Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training with U.S. Marshals, Border Patrol and the Sherriff’s department.
Police Chief Darryl Losoya said the interdepartmental teamwork with the Border Patrol is just another layer to ensure student’s safety.
Losoya: “They’re such a large agency that we have to implement them, with the size of our school and to make sure we have all the bases covered and to help us in taking care of our children.”
Aside from ALERRT training, A.P.D. also is using virtual reality active-shooter drills and patrol- bicycle training.
Police and Brewster County deputies are the first in the country to implement the Carbine Project, a 911 interface to video calls live with law enforcement during emergencies.
Losoya said all the training and innovative technologies add to the goal of protecting the community, which will be showcased at Night Out in October.
With Alpine High School now open for the school year, some parents may have had trouble finding where to drop off or pick up their children.
The school district and Alpine Police both posted on their Facebook Pages Monday a map showing pickup and drop-off points and asking parents to help with the traffic flow.

Another Police Facebook book post Sunday noted power was out for parts of Alpine because a utility pole on West Highway 90 damaged in the heavy rains.
Another post a short time later showed a leaning utility pole but reported power was back on.
The next Family Barn Dance by the Fort Davis Chamber of Commerce will be from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the Kelly Outdoor Pavilion.
All ages are welcome to attend free dance lessons and enjoy food from the Highland Hereford Café with live music by fiddler Doug Moreland.
Donations of $10 a person or $25 per family are suggested but attendees can give what they wish.
