The Big Bend Gun and Knife Show is scheduled for next weekend at the Pete P. Gallego Center on the Sul Ross campus.
It is hosted by the Alpine Lions Club and all federal and local firearm laws and ordinances must be obeyed.
It will be open from 9 to 6 Saturday, September 2, and 10 to 4 on Sunday.
General Admission is seven dollars and free to those 12 and younger, active military and Sul Ross students with I.D.
The Lions, which traditionally collect unused eyeglasses for the needy, will give a dollar off for a donation.

The City of Alpine has announced that the next monthly bulk pick up will be in the week of September 11, moved from the week earlier because of the Labor Day Holiday.
Residents must schedule their pickup with Texas Disposal Systems the week prior. Pickups may be scheduled by calling Texas Disposal Systems at 837-0845 next week before noon Friday.
Once the pick-up has been scheduled, place your bulk items on the curb or right of way directly in front of your home. Do not put anything onto the roadway, in an alley or next to a dumpster. For more information visit www.cityofalpine.com/bulkpickup
McDonald Observatory is providing online training via Zoom for K-through-12 educators and others planning to host a viewing of two upcoming solar eclipses.
Over the next year, Americans will experience not one, but two solar eclipses.
On October 14, an annular eclipse will travel from Oregon to Texas, encircling the Moon with a
brilliant “ring of fire.” And on April 8, a total eclipse will travel from Texas to Maine with the Moon surrounded by the Sun’s delicate corona.
Workshops will cover the science of eclipses, how to experience them safely and tips for hosting an event.
Training sessions have been planned for 1:30 September 5, noon September 13 and 1 p.m. September 21.
More will come up in October with times to be announced later.
Sheriff Ronny Dodson is preparing for a series of meetings in the county over school safety issues.
New state legislation, effective next Friday, requires sheriffs of counties with fewer than 350 thousand residents to have semi-annual meetings to discuss school safety.
The action stemmed from the shooting last year at Uvalde. Alpine has memories of its own school shooting in September 2016 in which the shooter was the only fatality.
Dodson said there are several school districts in Brewster County and all who receive public funding are required to attend. He also will send out notifications to all law enforcement agencies in the area that would respond to an active shooter situation.
As a result of the 2016 shooting, Alpine was one of the first districts to create “school resource officers.”
These are generally Brewster County deputies assigned to a school and the school district reimburses the Sheriff’s Office for the cost of these employees.

Se acerca el próximo resumen de órdenes judiciales para Alpine, que brindará a quienes tienen casos pendientes ante el tribunal municipal, la oportunidad de aclararlos y, tal vez, evitar la cárcel.
