August 24th

Transcript:

Good evening, today is Wednesday, August 24th, and I’m Hector Montemayor-Perez.

The Alpine School Board will meet Thursday to consider a proposed tax rate to support its deficit budget approved earlier this summer.

The administration is proposing a tax rate of a dollar and 13.61 cents per $100 valuation for the new school year and its fiscal year beginning last July.

The proposed rate is down from a dollar and 21.24 cents last year. The new rate includes 94.61 cents for maintenance and operations and 19 cents for debt service.

Finance officer Clay Braden said the rate is slightly less than the projected no-new-revenue rate and comports with changing state maximum regulations.

While the rate is lower than last year, it is projected to bring in more revenue because of increased property values.

The board in June approved a budget with expenses of about 11.6 million dollars but revenues of about 11.3 million.

In approving the deficit budget, Superintendent Dr. Michelle Rinehart and Financial Officer Braden said the district will work during the year to offset the shortfall.

The Board meets at 5:30 Wednesday afternoon in the Board Room at the Administration Building at 704 West Sul Ross Avenue.

Winners will be announced across the society’s digital platforms and featured in the American Political Science Association’s magazine, Political Science Today.

“Schwarz said Dr. Jessica Velasco serves as faculty advisor to the chapter and should be recognized for her extraordinary leadership and dedication.
