Fort Davis ISD is cancelling the 2026 football season due to what the district is calling QUOTE “a lack of student participation in the high school and low numbers in our middle school.”
In a letter announcing the decision, Jason Crow, the district’s superintendent, said although unfortunate, the district will “rebuild and return to the field next season.”
As the school year continues, the district says it will send updates on homecoming and pep rallies.

Tomorrow (TUESDAY), Brewster County officials will hold the next commissioners court, where they’re set to review the proposed budget for the next year.
As part of the meeting’s agenda, officials will also receive their regular department updates – including emergency management, road and bridge, and county comptroller.
The next commissioners court starts tomorrow (TUESDAY) morning at 9:30 a.m.

On Wednesday, the Big Bend Regional Hospital District will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Presidio Rural Health Center.
The health center is the first major health care facility construction in Presidio in 30 years. Once built, the facility will feature a medical clinic and will offer laboratory services.
The groundbreaking ceremony starts at 12:30 p.m. across from the Presidio Activity Center.

As part of next month’s Barrio Fest in Fort Stockton, event organizers are looking for entries for the festival’s car show.
Car show categories include motorcycle, low rider, hot rod, lifted truck and vehicles from the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and the 2000s and up.
Pre-registration for the car show is $40.

Next month (SEPTEMBER), the Alpine Chapter of the Mule Deer Foundation will host its third annual banquet and fundraiser.
As part of the event, there will be games, raffles and a live auction.

Later this fall (OCTOBER), the regional Archives Bazaar will be hosted by Sul Ross State University.
The annual event will see dozens of archives, libraries, museums, and cultural repositories from across West Texas and New Mexico join forces. Together, they’ll present archival materials from throughout the southwest borderlands.
The event is a great opportunity to immerse yourself in borderland history, culture, heritage, and legacy.
The regional Archives Bazaar will be Friday, Oct. 9 at the Morgan University Center on the Sul Ross Campus.

Also in the fall (OCOTBER), the 5th-annual Big Bend Bluegrass Festival returns to Alpine, bringing the tradition of bluegrass and American-roots music to the Big Bend.
The event, which encourages the preservation and enjoyment of the music style with free workshops and live performances, will be Friday, October 2 and Saturday October 3 at the Alpine Civic Center.

El Distrito Escolar Independiente (ISD) de Fort Davis cancelará la temporada de fútbol americano de 2026 debido a lo que el distrito denomina —cito textualmente— “falta de participación estudiantil en la escuela secundaria superior (high school) y cifras bajas en nuestra escuela intermedia (middle school)”.
En una carta en la que se anuncia la decisión, Jason Crow, superintendente del distrito, señaló que, aunque la situación es lamentable, el distrito “se reconstruirá y volverá al campo de juego la próxima temporada”.
A medida que avance el año escolar, el distrito informará sobre las novedades relacionadas con el *homecoming* (celebración escolar anual) y los actos de animación estudiantil (*pep rallies*).

El miércoles, el Distrito Hospitalario Regional de Big Bend celebrará la ceremonia de inicio de obras del nuevo Centro de Salud Rural de Presidio.
Este centro de salud representa la primera construcción importante de una instalación sanitaria en Presidio en 30 años. Una vez terminado, el centro contará con una clínica médica y ofrecerá servicios de laboratorio.
