Hello, I’m Z and this is your local and area news.
Alpine High School was evacuated and the middle and elementary schools were put on preventive lockdowns after a bomb threat at the high school Monday morning.
Superintendent Dr. Michelle Rinehart issued a notification shortly after noon saying that high school students and staff have been evacuated and all were safe at that time.
Later in the day, Dr. Rinehart issued an update saying the elementary and middle schools will continue to operate on their regular schedule, with end-of-day dismissal at regular times.
The shelter-in-place has been lifted at both schools and those campuses will continue on their usual schedule and all school buses will run at regular times.
The high school was dismissed for the day after the bomb scare.
Law enforcement has searched the high school and found no credibility to the threat. The F.B.I. is investigating the origins of the reported threat.
Dr. Rinehart said they expect to resume normal operations Tuesday at the regular time and students may pick up items left at the school.
The Big Bend Citizens Alliance is working on a new community library to serve the citizens of Terlingua, Study (STOO-dee) Butte and surrounding areas.
Citizens there have long used the library at the Terlingua Common School District but the school was forced to limit presence there to students last year because of new security requirements.
We tried to reach alliance President Joselyn Fenstermacher but she was not available.
Terlingua School Superintendent Reagan Reed told us the alliance will start first with a mobile library until a brick-and-mortar library can be built.
In the interim, the school district is providing citizens with limited services, including an online catalogue and helping with pick-ups and drop-offs at the school’s office window.
The Alliance reported plans to use American Rescue Plan funds for the new community library
The Texas Southwest Small Business Development Center will present (presented) training on dealing with threats to internet security from 10 to 11 Wednesday by Zoom.
Phishing attacks continue to be one of the biggest threats facing businesses today. Threat actors can use phishing to gain access to, modify or even hold your data for ransom.
But technology has advanced with email security software, education and awareness training, still the best defense to combat a phishing attack.
The Zoom training presents the different methods of phishing, detecting a phishing attack and recovery.

Plans already are under way for the Second Annual Bluegrass Festival in Alpine October 6th and 7th at the Alpine Civic Center.
The program includes a songwriting workshop with Edgar Loudermilk on Saturday, October 7, and other workshops will include guitar, mandolin and fiddle.
A jam tent will be set up outside for those who want to jam. Concessions will be available along with a drawing and door prizes.
The event still is more than a month away but backers suggested reservations should be made as soon as possible.
