With Monday’s eclipse, which reached about 91 percent of totality in our area, it’s time to think of a bit more mundane heavenly events.
The Big Bend Arts Council will have a Dark Skies Art Show April 18 to June 4 with a reception on Friday, April 19, at the Gallery on the Square.
Art is due for the show from 11 to 4:30 Tuesday, April 16.
Artists may submit art in any medium – paintings, ceramics, photographs, jewelry and glass.
Artists can submit up to three works of art and they can have replacement entries for works that have sold.
The fee is five dollars and entries must be by Arts Council members. It the council sells your work, the commission is 20 percent.

“Guitar in the Big Bend,” a series of free classical guitar concerts and a masterclass at Sul Ross State University, will be at various area locations next weekend, Friday to Sunday.
Adjunct Professor Nicolas Hurt said the participants include the university, the Museum of the Big Bend, the City of Alpine and First Presbyterian Church in Marfa.
A welcome reception and workshop will be at 5 Friday at Far West Texas Guitars at 114 North 6 th Street in Alpine.
The featured concert artist is Romanian guitarist Dragos Ilie (DRAH-goss EE-lee), who has entertained audiences across Europe, Asia and the United States.
He will teach the masterclass from noon to two Saturday in Room 200 of the Fine Arts Building on campus and perform at 6 along with Hurt at the Museum of the Big Bend.
Ilie will perform with classical guitarist Jeremy Waldrip at the First Presbyterian Church in Marfa at 7 Sunday evening.

TransPecos Banks have announced that they will award up to 35 thousand dollars in scholarships to graduating high school students this year.
The statement said bank management believes there is no better way to invest in their communities than by supporting future leaders in pursuit of higher education.

The Old Sheriffs Museum and Research Center in Fort Davis has scheduled a ribbon cutting at 11 Saturday at the Old Jail. Tours and food will be available until 2.
The museum is developing exhibits to display donated items and artifacts documenting the history of sheriffs in West Texas.
The recently-refurbished old jail near the Courthouse will house exhibits, archives and memorabilia about the history of law enforcement in the tri-county region.
