The Lone Star Cowboy Poetry Board has issued its regular newsletter and it remembers the last Gathering in Alpine in February.
In a P.S. to those who love the gathering and keeping these traditions alive, it announced it is taking pledges for matching funds for its big fundraising campaign, the 2025 Performers Fund.
It has set a matching pool goal at 60 thousand dollars and has more than 21 thousand pledged so far. Pledges will be collected on September 1 for the 2025 show next February.
The Board is seeking funding to keep it viable. It is one of Alpine’s greatest Red Letter Day events on the calendar.
Remembering the most recent program, the newsletter noted the Gathering brought more than 26 hundred attendees from 34 states and 6 countries to Alpine.
While here over three days, they stayed in area hotels and other lodging, ate in our restaurants and shopped with area merchants.
Backers can support the Gathering with pledges to the Promise Fund. And they can support it all year with a membership.

Area law enforcement continues to arrest illegal border crossings in the current surge of border incursions.
Early Tuesday morning, a Brewster County deputy assisted U.S. Border Patrol agents with a group of suspects who fled on foot during a traffic stop.
The officers were able to arrest three illegal aliens from Mexico and refer them to the Border Patrol for prosecution.
Eighteen education students at Sul Ross State University will be initiated into the Zeta Delta Chapter of Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society in a ceremony this week.
The initiation will be at 7 Wednesday in Room 129 of the Gallego Center on the Alpine campus. Kappa Delta Pi was founded in 1911 at the University of Illinois.
It was to foster excellence in education and promote fellowship among those dedicated to teaching. The name is from the Greek words for knowledge, duty and power.
Members who have made significant contributions include Albert Einstein, George Washington Carver, Eleanor Roosevelt and Margaret Mead, among many others.
The mission of Kappa Delta Pi is to sustain an honored community of diverse educators by promoting excellence and advancing scholarship, leadership and service.
Sul Ross Professor of Education Dr. Jeanne Qvarnstrom (KWARN-strum) is the chapter counselor. Harlem Ramos is president and Luis Sandoval is the president-elect.

The Big Bend Community Chorale Spring Performance will be presented at 7:30 Friday at the corner of Gallego Avenue and South 5 th Street.
It is the site of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, which is sponsoring the event.
Sheriff Ronny Dodson will host the Big Bend Area Law Enforcement Annual Memorial Ceremony on the Sul Ross State University Campus at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 5.
This year’s keynote speaker will be Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick.
The guest speaker will be Sheriffs of Texas Executive Director Skylor Hearn. The public is encouraged to attend.

En un PosData para aquellos que aman la reunión y mantienen vivas estas tradiciones, anunció que se comprometerá a donar fondos de contrapartida para su gran campaña de recaudación de fondos, el Fondo de Artistas 2025.
Se ha fijado un objetivo de contrapartida de 60.000 dólares y hasta el momento ha prometido más de 21.000. Las promesas se recolectaran el 1ro de septiembre para la feria de 2025 el próximo febrero.
La Junta está buscando financiación para mantenerlo viable. Es uno de los eventos más importantes del calendario del Día de la Letra Roja de Alpine.
Recordando el programa más reciente, el boletín señaló que el Encuentro trajo a Alpine a más de 2.600 asistentes de 34 estados y 6 países.
