Good evening, today is Wednesday, April 26th, and I’m Hector Montemayor-Perez.
The Alpine Business Alliance, originally created as the Alpine Downtown Association, meets Thursday evening in the Granada Theatre in a re-organizational meeting.
One agenda item is the results from the recent business survey that provided information about the challenges and opportunities facing the Alpine businesses community.
It is expected to identify new strategies and initiatives to support the growth and success of the business community which was badly weakened by the recent Covid Pandemic.
The agenda also includes the formal adoption of the “doing business as” name and ratification of the election of President Jim Street.
Conley Rasor has served in that capacity for a year and a third but has found his growing business keeps taking more of his time and has asked to be relieved.
Street has agreed to return to the presidency of the organization of which he is a key founder. Rasor said he still wants to contribute to the organization’s programs, just not as president.

Tiki Davis, who went from a foster home to a Sul Ross State University graduate, will be the commencement speaker at his alma mater’s graduation ceremony next month.
A one-time child of the Odessa streets and two-time Sul Ross graduate, Davis will deliver the spring commencement at 5:30 p.m. May 19 at the Pete P. Gallego Center.
An award-winning entrepreneur in various fields and now a motivational speaker, Davis tells a story of triumph over trials on a growing national platform.
Davis lived in foster homes for much of his early life.
When he was 17, he was a star football player at Odessa High School but was accused of a crime and spent six months in county jail in the middle of his senior year of high school.
He was later exonerated and enrolled at Sul Ross after his release, earning a bachelor’s degree in 2003 and a master’s degree in 2005.
During his student years, he played football for parts of three seasons, then turned his attention to theatre.
He was cast as an extra during the filming of “Friday Night Lights” in Odessa, then gained a speaking role.
The Borderlands Research Institute has honored two San Antonio women for their conservation contributions in West Texas.
The awards came at B.R.I.’s second annual West Texas Conservationists of Year award ceremony at the San Antonio Country Club this month.
It was hosted by the Borderlands Research Foundation, the charitable arm of the Institute.
The honorees are Roxana “Roxie” Catto Hayne and Ruthie Bowman Russell, both of San Antonio and longtime leaders in West Texas conservation.
The 16th Big Bend Big Fix Spay and Neuter Clinic will be in Marathon May 20 and 21 for pet owners from the Big Bend and Trans Pecos Region.
For 129 dollars per pet, owners can receive spay or neuter surgery and basic and rabies vaccines.
Wellness exams for 25 dollars include annual and rabies vaccines. Microchips and Flea and Tick Treatments are available at 10 dollars each.
The Big Bend Big Fix is hosted by the Far West Texas Rescue Coalition and the veterinary team from Animal Balance, funded in part by a grant from the Permian Basin Area Foundation.
