Good evening, today is Thursday, April 20th, and I’m Hector Montemayor-Perez.
This year’s annual Spirits of the West Wine and Beef Fest by Alpine’s Gallery Night will be Friday and Saturday.
The street festival will be on 6th Street, between Holland and Avenue E, and The Granada Theatre will host music events Friday and Saturday evening.
The street festival will be from 4 to 7 Friday with wine makers, spirit distillers and brew masters, together with beef producers and chefs from across Texas.
Fly Gap Winery, Chateau Wright Winery and Farm Ale Brewing Company will host their first-ever festival kickoff party, Spirits After Dark that evening.
The party will include food and wine and the funkadelic bands Spicy Loops at 7, followed by Feline Fox at 9.
Saturday opens at 10 with the reopening of the gates to the street festival with wine, spirits, art vendors and live music acts performing throughout the day.
That night. the doors will open at The Granada Theatre for Cody Canada and The Departed concert, with opening band Anthony Ray Wright.
Show times are 6 and 7 for Anthony Ray Wright and 9 for Cody Canada and The Departed.
This is the second year of the festival with the goal of continuing to celebrate the rich heritage of West Texas beef production with the growing wine industry across the state.

The Alpine Planning and Zoning Board will conduct a Historic workshop and walking tour Monday evening working toward creation of a Downtown Historic District.
The board worked with the Alpine Downtown Association a few years ago but critics claimed what was envisioned was too large.
The Alpine Historical Association has picked up the project and envisions an eight-block district between Holland and Sul Ross Avenues and 3rd to 7th Streets.
In a letter to participants, City Manager Megan Antrim said the district could increase property values, tourism and economic development.
It starts at the Holland Hotel at 6 and a walking tour will lead to the Granada Theatre for live music and cocktails at 6:45, sponsored by the A.H.A.

The Alpine Public Library is offering another program aimed at better understanding of the need to keep skies in our area dark.
“Seeing in the Dark, Watching Invisible Bird Migrations,” is the name of the program scheduled for Earth Day Saturday.
Maureen G. Frank, the new endowed professor of Conservative Biology at the Sul Ross Borderlands Research Institute, will present.
Area local governments have all adopted new Dark Skies ordinances and our area from north of Balmorhea into Mexico is the new largest Dark Sky Reserve in the world.
Much of the emphasis on dark skies is because light pollution makes it harder for scientists at McDonald Observatory to do their work.
But dark skies are important to tourism, bringing in people from a wide area who can’t see the skies at night and preservation of wildlife.
The program will be at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and nighttime viewing at McDonald by Stephen Hummel will be at 8:30.
Presidio County Sheriff’s Office has contracted with Carbyne to launch Live Audio Translation for its Apex Emergency Call Platform.
This new artificial intelligence helps call-takers save time and money, reduce errors and support diversity.
The new milestone development seeks to save lives by aiding call takers with translation when non-English speakers have difficulty communicating.
