This weekend is a busy one with events as far as the eye can see. Those who say there’s nothing to do just are not looking.
The Third Annual Spirits of the West Festival highlighting Texas-produced wines, spirits and beef is this weekend on the Brewster Couty Courthouse lawn.
Its producer, Alpine’s Gallery Night, bills it as a celebration of Texas’ best wine makers, spirit distillers and brew masters, together with beef producers and chefs from across Texas.
The two-day festival, sponsored by Chateau Wright Winery, begins Friday with a street festival of dozens of Texas wineries, distilleries, breweries and chefs.
Both nights will feature live music acts, of course beer and wine including spirits tastings and beef dishes.
Friday night, music will be by Alpine’s own The Swifts, Feline Fox and Texas original headliner Joe King Carrasco from 4 to 10.
Saturday, it will be from 11 to 10 with live music to also include Los Pinche Gringos.

The Alpine Volunteer Fire Department promises the hottest spaghetti dinner in Alpine from 5:30 to 7:30 Friday at the American Legion Post in Alpine.
A 12-dollar plate will get a fully loaded dinner served by Alpine Firefighters. They will help fund artist Style Reed’s redoing the mural on Holland Avenue by the fire station.
Tours of fire trucks will be available as well as a meet and greet, all to help celebrate the department’s 100 th anniversary.
Tickets are available from local firefighters, at Traci’s Vapor Emporium or the Alpine U.S.D.A. Building at 1805 North Highway 118.
The Artists’ Reception for “Dark Skies” will be at the Gallery On The Square and “Catching The Light” at CatchLight Art Gallery from 5 to 7 or 7:30 Friday evening.
Featured art and artists depicting the dark skies of our Big Bend along with Tim Robert’s scratchboard and oil paintings and Diane Tod South’s oil paintings.
The Galleries are at 115 and 117 West Holland Ave in Alpine.
The children’s chorus and the Vivace youth singers will have a concert called Animal Songs. The theme is songs about animals.
The announcement by the Big Bend Arts Council promises an extra-fun concert.
The concert at the First United Methodist Church on Sul Ross Avenue begins at 7:30.
This weekend also has the Chihuahuan Desert Gem and Mineral Show all day on Friday through Sunday at the Civic Center.
Join in the fun and shop for all sorts of unique stones and carvings.
And the ongoing show of “Mule Ears! Mule Ears! Mule Ears!” will be at the Earth and Fire Gallery in Terlingua featuring the art of Richard Curtin, through April 30.
The city of Alpine and Keep Alpine Beautiful will celebrate Earth Day with a free event Saturday and it’s been moved to Kishmish plaza.
It will include that day educational booths, kids’ activities, mural painting, a bouncy castle, plant sale, popcorn, snow cones and wild animals from 10 to 2.
And the paint party for the park has been canceled due to rain.
And it’s not this weekend but the San Angelo Art Club will host the 27 th Annual “Fiesta in Realism” in June.
It is an all-painting show with realistic style paintings in three categories of oil, acrylic or watercolors.
Two thousand dollars in prize awards will be from the C. Russell Myers Fund and paintings do not have to be for sale. Two intake days are Wednesday, May 22, and Saturday, May 25.
The Brewster County Clerk’s office will be closed from 1 to 5 on April 25 and all day on April 26.
The staff will be attending the Regional Conference for training to better serve the public.

El Departamento de Bomberos Voluntarios de Alpine promete la cena de espagueti más picante de Alpine de 5:30 a 7:30 el viernes en el American Legion Post en Alpine.
Un plato de 12 dólares recibirá una cena completa servida por los bomberos alpinos. Ayudarán a financiar la rehacer del artista Style Reed el mural en Holland Avenue junto a la estación de bomberos.
