Good evening, today is Monday, April 18th, and I’m Hector Montemayor-Perez.
A Meet and Greet with candidate for Alpine Mayor Amit Rangra will be about 5:30 p.m. April 30 at Kishmish Plaza with food and festivities.
Rangra is running against Catherine Eaves. Incumbent Andy Ramos was term limited and could not run for re-election. It is the only city race for the May 7 General Election.
Rangra is a life-long resident of Alpine who has operated the Rangra Movie Theatre alongside his father Avinash for many years.
In an interview during KVLF’s Martin in the Morning show, Rangra said that his passion for his community made him throw his hat in the ring.
Rangra: “You know my love is here in Alpine, for the community, through business development and my friends. My friends are here.”
Rangra’s concerns include revising the permit system, the sewer system, nourishing a strong sales tax system, recycling and revitalizing Alpine Creek.
Rangra: “It’s always about the fundamentals, you know? It’s about the water, it’s about the sewer, it’s about the streets, it’s about the trash.”

The Alpine Ambassadors are planning four ribbon cuttings within a little more than a week starting next week.
West Texas Italian Delicacies at 801 East Holland Avenue is a new eatery in the building once occupied by the Big Bend Regional Hospital District.
It is planned for 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 28.
Three more, two at the same time and place, are scheduled for the following week.
Alpine Wine at 116 North 5th Street will have two ribbon cuttings, one for the wine shop and the other for Alpine Bed and Breakfast at 403 North 8th Street.
Tom and Sharon Kelner own both establishments and both ribbon cuttings will be at the Wine shop.
And the food truck at the corner of Holland and 5th Streets will be at 5:30 p.m. May 7.
That had been a Thai food truck for a few years but Ryan and Vanessa Kincade bought it and Catryna Rodriguez has agreed to operate the food truck.
Efforts will be made to keep the activity from blocking two of the city’s original murals east and north of the lot.
Rodriguez said she will offer American food and would like to concentrate on Southern Comfort foods like meat loaf, fried foods, casseroles and the like.
We had a story earlier today about students in Alpine High School art teacher Rachel Maxwell’s class getting involved in the current Dark Skies initiative.
Now they report a fine art exhibition from 5 to 7 p.m. next Monday in the lobby of the Holland Hotel.
Maxwell said earlier her students are participating in the Dark Skies Coloring Contest, suggested by City Councilor Judy Stokes.
The coloring contest is open to high school art students to showcase their talents and creativity, all while promoting the importance of night-sky-friendly lighting.
The teenaged artists will compete for cash awards during the Earth Day celebration Friday at Kokernot Park.
The Drug Enforcement Administration’s next National Prescription Drug Take Back will be from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. April 30 in front of Morrison’s True Value.
Collection sites around the nation are available to encourage the public to remove unneeded medications from their homes to prevent medication misuse and opioid addiction.
The last National Take Back Day in October resulted in 372 tons of prescription drugs disposed through nearly 5,000 collection sites.
