David Chester Fricker, a friend of the Big Bend who was the Terlingua-Study Butte Water Board President for many years, died earlier this month in Waco. He was 84.
For many years, David and his wife Virginia were a local fixture, often seen walking along Highway 170 in the early morning, collecting litter and keeping the road clean under the pseudonym, “Concerned Citizens of Highway 170.”
David loved the beauty of the Big Bend and cherished the friendships he made here and took great pleasure hosting dinner parties at his home. Affectionately known as “Tricky Fricky,” David loved jokes and was a master of puns to the end. He enjoyed music, made his own unique CD collections, loved science and technology, and had a penchant for car rides through raging thunderstorms.
David was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 yrs and is survived by five children and their partners, four beautiful grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

The independent YouTube channel Wild Yeti Films is putting out a series on Big Bend National Park.
In a trailer for the series, the channel says it will take viewers on an “epic journey” through the region – from towering mountain peaks to the region’s desert landscapes.
YETI1: “And the desert which by any other name is an ocean upon itself was my home before it was home. Here I find solid footing, balance, peace.” (0:15)

The Small Business Development Center at Sul Ross State University in Alpine is holding two more training sessions this week.
Tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., the SBDC will host a webinar on the key metrics that matter in marketing and how to use them. By measuring the right metrics, businesses can make data-driven decisions to improve their marketing strategies and see better results. Then, on Friday, learn how to boost your business with video marketing. That Zoom training will be from 10 a.m. to 11. You’ll learn practical strategies for creating effective video content that connects with your audience and drives results.

The Texas Well Owner Network will be in the Big Bend later this month to help residents screen their well water.
From April 21 to the 22 – the network will screen well samples for common contaminants including fecal coliform, E. coli bacteria, nitrates, arsenic and high salinity.
The cost of each sample is $15 and you can bring as many samples as you’d like.
The network will be collecting samples in Brewster, Jeff Davis, and Presidio counties on April 21. The following day, they’ll host a seminar to explain water well basics, aquifer basics, septic systems, and water treatment and to go over the results of the water quality screenings. That presentation will be at the Judge Val Beard Building at 207 N. 7th Street in Alpine.

El canal independiente de YouTube Wild Yeti Films está publicando una serie sobre el Parque Nacional Big Bend.

La Red de Propietarios de Pozos de Texas estará en Big Bend a finales de este mes para ayudar a los residentes a controlar el agua de sus pozos.
