The 80th annual Sul Ross College Rodeo is coming to Alpine later this week.
Starting Thursday, September 25 and continuing through Saturday the 27th, head to the S.A.L.E. arena to see the best college cowboys and cowgirls from the NIRA Lone Star Region going head-to-head.
Tickets will be available at the gate – they’re $10 for adults and $5 for children and seniors.
Admissions is free to Sul Ross students and faculty.

The Big Bend Sentinel, which serves readers in Presidio County, is now run by Sentinel News Project, a new nonprofit organization.
The paper, which will celebrate its 100-year anniversary in 2026, was sold by documentary filmmaker Maisie Crow and her husband, Max Kabbat, who took over the publication in 2019.
In an article announcing the move, the president of the nonprofit now overseeing the paper, Roger Black, said they have “ambitious plans to increase and improve the editorial content, print and digital—written and visual.”
As the paper’s entering this new phase, they’re looking for input from the public on what changes people would like to see.
The Big Bend Sentinel will celebrate their next chapter with a public event on October 7 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Sentinel building in Marfa.

Starting October 1, the Department of Nursing at Sul Ross will start accepting applications for its spring 2026 cohort for the Bachelor of Science degree program next month.
In part, qualifying students must have been admitted to Sul Ross State and have successfully completed all core courses and prerequisites by the end of spring 2026.
The application cycle will remain open until Dec. 1.
Interviews will be held December 15 through the 18, and applicants will be notified if they’ve been accepted on December 19.

The Big Bend Citizen’s Alliance will hold a regular meeting today (WEDNESDAY) at the Red Pattillo Community Center at 201 Rex Ivey Rd in Study Butte.
The nonprofit organization is a public charity supporting several initiatives in south Brewster County, from the Canyon View Community Park and Terlingua Cares to Voices From Both Sides and the South County Library Project, among other efforts.
The meeting is open to the public.

Next month there will be a benefit lunch for Mari Cervantes at the American Legion in Alpine.
Brisket will be sold, and each plate will be $15. Tickets will be available at the door.
The benefit lunch happens Saturday, October 4 from noon to 4 p.m., or until food runs out.

Later this fall, head to Terlingua for Ken and Joee Barnes’ 30th annual memorial scholarship fundraiser.
There will be a cribbage and horseshoe tournament, BBQ plates and a silent auction – all part of an effort to raise more scholarship funds for students graduating from Terlingua.
The event will be Saturday, November 8 at the Ghosttown horseshoe pits. I

A partir del 1ro de octubre, el Departamento de Enfermería de Sul Ross aceptará solicitudes para la cohorte de primavera del 2026 para el programa de Licenciatura en Ciencias el próximo mes.
Para calificar, los estudiantes deben haber sido admitidos en Sul Ross State y haber completado satisfactoriamente todos los cursos básicos y prerrequisitos antes del final de la primavera del 2026.
El ciclo de solicitud permanecerá abierto hasta el 1ro de diciembre.
Las entrevistas se realizarán del 15 al 18 de diciembre, y se notificará a los solicitantes si han sido aceptados el 19 de diciembre.

La Alianza Ciudadana de Big Bend celebrará una reunión ordinaria hoy (MIÉRCOLES) en el Centro Comunitario Red Pattillo, ubicado en 201 Rex Ivey Rd, Study Butte.
Esta organización sin fines de lucro es una organización benéfica pública que apoya diversas iniciativas en el sur del condado de Brewster, desde el Parque Comunitario Canyon View y Terlingua Cares hasta Voces de Ambos Lados y el Proyecto de Bibliotecas del Sur del Condado, entre otras.
La reunión está abierta al público.
