Tomorrow (SATURDAY), at Front Street Books, author Michael S. Price will talk about his latest book – “Reptiles of the Trans-Pecos Texas.”
According to Price, the field guide is meant to serve as a reference to help people identify the 81 species of reptiles that can be found in the Trans-Pecos region. As part of his presentation, Price said he’ll bring in “live specimens” like turtles, lizards and snakes.
The book presentation is Saturday, September 20 from 1 to 3 p.m.

On Monday, Alpine ISD will hold a public meeting to get input from the community on what improvements they would like to see to Manuel Payne Field at Kokernot Park.
The district and the city of Alpine are considering potential upgrades to the field to improve youth recreation facilities in Alpine.
According to Alpine ISD superintendent Michelle Rinehart, if improved, the district could return to using the field for its middle school and high school softball teams. And it could also become the home of future softball tournaments and other events for the city.
The public meeting takes place Monday, September 22 from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Alpine High School Cafeteria.

Brewster County commissioners court meets next week – Tuesday, September 23.
The regular meeting starts at 9:30 a.m. at the Brewster County Courthouse at 201 W. Ave. E.

Next week, kick off “Rodeo week” at Sul Ross State University with a campus cattle drive.
The annual event, hosted by the Sul Ross Rodeo Team, will be Tuesday, September 23. Then at the end of next week, head to the S.A.L.E. arena for the 80th annual Sul Ross College Rodeo.
From September 25 to 27, see the best college cowboys and cowgirls from the NIRA Lone Star Region going head-to-head.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children and seniors and will be available at the gate.
Admissions is free to Sul Ross students and faculty.

Starting October 1, the Department of Nursing at Sul Ross will start accepting applications for its spring 2026 cohort for the Bachelor of Science degree program next month.
In part, qualifying students must have been admitted to Sul Ross State and have successfully completed all core courses and prerequisites by the end of spring 2026.
The application cycle will remain open until Dec. 1.
Interviews will be held December 15 through the 18, and applicants will be notified if they’ve been accepted on December 19.

Next month there will be a benefit lunch for Mari Cervantes at the American Legion in Alpine.
Brisket will be sold, and each plate will be $15. Tickets will be available at the door.
The benefit lunch happens Saturday, October 4 from noon to 4 p.m., or until food runs out.

Next weekend, celebrate National Public Lands day by cleaning up the most iconic pockets of Big Bend Ranch State Park.
On Saturday, September 27 from 10 a.m. to noon, head to the park as staff and volunteers clean up a portion of River Road and some of the most popular trails in the park.

El lunes, Alpine ISD llevará a cabo una reunión pública para recibir aportes de la comunidad sobre las mejoras que les gustaría ver en Manuel Payne Field en Kokernot Park.
El distrito y la ciudad de Alpine están considerando posibles mejoras en el campo para mejorar las instalaciones de recreación juvenil en Alpine.
Según la superintendente del Distrito Escolar Independiente de Alpine, Michelle Rinehart, si se mejora, el distrito podría volver a usar el campo para sus equipos de sóftbol de secundaria y preparatoria. Además, podría convertirse en sede de futuros torneos de sóftbol y otros eventos de la ciudad.
La reunión pública se llevará a cabo el lunes 22 de septiembre de 7 a 8 p. m. en la cafetería de Alpine High School.

La semana que viene, damos inicio a la “Semana del Rodeo” en la Universidad Estatal Sul Ross con una arreada de ganado en el campus.
El evento anual, organizado por el equipo de rodeo de Sul Ross, será el martes 23 de septiembre. Luego, a fines de la próxima semana, diríjase al estadio S.A.L.E. para el 80.° rodeo anual de Sul Ross College.
Del 25 al 27 de septiembre, vea a los mejores vaqueros y vaqueras universitarios de la región Lone Star de NIRA enfrentarse cara a cara.

A partir del 1 de octubre, el Departamento de Enfermería de Sul Ross comenzará a aceptar solicitudes para su cohorte de primavera de 2026 para el programa de Licenciatura en Ciencias el próximo mes.
