Alpine City Council meets tomorrow (TUESDAY), and you can find the agenda for that meeting at https://www.cityofalpine.com.

The meeting starts at 5:30 at the city council chambers located at 803 W. Holland Avenue.


This week, a veteran resource pop-up is coming to Alpine.

On September 19 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., several agencies will come together to assist and provide veterans, servicemembers and their families with resources, employment opportunities and other resources. 

The event takes place at the Morgan University Center at Sul Ross State University. 


The Board of Trustees for Alpine ISD are set to meet this week.

And during the meeting, the district’s superintendent, Michelle Rinehart, will present her usual report, which will include an enrollment update and a discussion on the process for renaming Alpine High School.

The meeting starts at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 17 at the Alpine ISD administration building.


A new history exhibit at the Jeff Davis County Library in Fort Davis tells the story of César Chávez, who spent his life fighting for improved working conditions for American farm workers.

“In His Own Words: The Life and Work of César Chávez” is on display now and will be up through Friday, October 10. 

The exhibit features 22 vintage photos from Chávez’s life.

The Brewster County Groundwater Conservation District is set to meet next week. 

On the agenda for the meeting is an update on a study of the Santa Elena aquifer, which runs under much of the area in Big Bend National Park. The district is also set to receive a report on monitoring zones in the area from the board member Kevin Urbanczyk. 

The meeting is Thursday, September 18 at 9 a.m. at the Val Clark Beard county office building, located at 203 N. 7th Street.

This weekend, the 48th annual Cycle Fest takes place at the historic Prude Ranch in Fort Davis.

The annual event is a scenic bike tour, taking cyclists through the Davis Mountains on easy routes and challenging hills. 

The tour provides three different routes at 34, 54 and 73 miles. 

The race is September 21.

This weekend, head to Balmorhea State Park for a star party. 

On Saturday, September 20 starting at 9 p.m., learn a few tips to help you remember the constellations and stars above.

The event is covered with the entrance fee into the park.

Organizers say to bring a blanket or chair and a red light flashlight if possible. 


At the end of the month, country music star Aaron Watson performs at the Gallego Center in Alpine. 

The event is a fundraiser for Sul Ross State University athletic facilities. 

The concert is Friday, September 26 – tickets are on sale now.
