Alpine City Council will hold a special meeting next week to conduct interviews for the position of city manager and discuss the next steps in the hiring process.
That’s according to an agenda for the meeting.
Those discussions are set to happen in executive session, which is closed to the public.
According to the agenda for the September 9 meeting, the only other planned discussions include the usual announcements from the mayor, city council and council members, along with the mayor and city manager reports.
The special meeting takes place Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at the council chambers.

This weekend, Fort Davis National Historic Site presents “The U.S. Army Camel Experiment.”
You can visit with Doug Baum and his camels as he shares the story of the U.S. Army Camel Experiment and how the hump-backed animals made their way through Fort Davis in the 1850s.
The event happens on Saturday and Sunday, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Fort Davis National Historic Site.

The 80th annual Sul Ross College Rodeo is coming to Alpine at the end of the month.
From September 25 to 27, head to the S.A.L.E. arena to see the best college cowboys and cowgirls from the NIRA Lone Star Region going head-to-head.
Tickets will be available at the gate – they’re $10 for adults and $5 for children and seniors.
Admissions is free to Sul Ross students and faculty.

The Terlingua Pet Clinic, held late last month, was able to provide 115 spay/neuter surgeries for 115 pets and gave wellness services to at least 61 other pets.
In an update to KVLF, Mary Ann Vega, the director of Alpine Humane Society, said the event – supported by a crew of volunteers and generous donations – was able to raise almost $2,000.
Vega said there are already discussions about holding a clinic again next year.

Sul Ross State University has announced their fall schedule for the science seminar series, which highlights the research expertise and work being done at the university.
The first seminar is Thursday, September 18 and will feature Dr. Erika Blecha, an archeologist with the Center for Big Bend Studies. Dr. Blecha is set to give a presentation about the “intersection of past environments and people through animal remains.”
The seminar series is open to all students, faculty and the Big Bend community.
Each discussion is one hour long, and afterwards participants are encouraged to continue conversations at an off-campus mixer.
All seminars will be held in the Warnock Science Building, Room 201, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

The lineup for next year’s Lonestar Cowboy Poetry Gathering has been released, and members can get their tickets now.
The gathering starts February 19, and over the course of three days, the event will bring together poets, musicians and storytellers from all over to honor the history and culture of cowboying – performed by those who have lived it.

La Clínica Veterinaria de Terlingua, celebrada a finales del mes pasado, realizó 115 cirugías de esterilización/castración a 115 mascotas y brindó servicios de bienestar a al menos otras 61.
En una actualización para KVLF, Mary Ann Vega, directora de la Sociedad Protectora de Animales de Alpine, informó que el evento, con el apoyo de un equipo de voluntarios y generosas donaciones, logró recaudar casi $2,000.
Vega indicó que ya se está considerando la posibilidad de realizar otra clínica el próximo año.

La Universidad Estatal Sul Ross ha anunciado su programa de otoño para el ciclo de seminarios científicos, que destaca la experiencia investigadora y el trabajo que se realiza en la universidad.
