Guadalupe Valero Salmon passed away peacefully on August 6, after a three year journey with dementia.
Gudalupe was born in 1930 in Marathon, and worked to support her family early on, holding jobs as a telephone operator, waitress and as a seamstress as well.
For Guadalupe, family was most important, and she always had time to listen, to share a meal, and to love unconditionally. She lived the scripture John 13:34-35: “Love one another. As I have
loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples,
if you love one another.”
Guadalupe Valero Salmon is survived by her three children, eight grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
A rosary service for Gudadlaupe will be held tomorrow (FRIDAY) at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Alpine.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church with burial to follow at Holy Angels Cemetery.

This weekend, the Big Bend Ranch Rodeo celebrates 25 years of bringing together working cowboys to showcase what they do day in and day out on a ranch, from wild cow milking and branding to doctoring and bronc riding.
The two-day event takes place at the S.A.L.E. arena at Sul Ross State University and will see ranch teams from Texas, New Mexico and Arizona.
Speaking to K-V-L-F, Mattie Sargent said the event starts tomorrow (FRIDAY) at 5:30.
SARGENT1: “The gates will open for ticket sales, we don’t have any pre-sales of tickets, you have to buy them at the gate. We got a trade show set up out there to go through, we’ll have food vendors out there so you can get some good dinner. And then the rodeo will start at 7 with the grand entry. We usually wrap up between 9:30 and 10:00.” (0:17)
Sargent says this year’s event also includes 10 youth teams, all under the age of 17, competing in similar events to the adults.
On Saturday, the final performance beings at 7:00 p.m. followed by the awards ceremony.

Over the next several days, the Alpine-Fort Davis Plein Air paintout takes place across the region.
The first event takes place Friday and Saturday Mitre Peak, about halfway between Alpine and Fort Davis. There will be a meet and greet supper at Kiva Lodge at 6p.m. Friday, and on Saturday, artists will paint all day – with wonderful mountain landscapes in view.
Then on Sunday, artists will paint all day at Cathedral Mountain Ranch, off Highway 118.

This weekend, the Chihuahuan Desert Research Institute hosts its annual BBQ and auction fundraiser.
The event happens Saturday, August 9 at the Chihuahuan Desert Nature Center and Botanical Gardens. Doors open at 3:45 followed by a live and silent auction, a BBQ dinner and live music.

The Terlingua Music Bash is looking for artists and donations for the event’s silent auction.
The music festival will be held later this year in October in the Terlingua Ghost Town.
The auction benefits the Mark Kneeskern Memorial Art Scholarship, which is awarded to a graduating senior of Big Bend High School that’s pursuing a fine art degree. This year’s recipient is Caitlin Staib, who will be attending Texas A&M Corpus Christi.

Guadalupe Valero Salmon falleció pacíficamente el 6 de agosto, tras tres años de lucha contra la demencia.
Guadalupe nació en 1930 en Marathon y desde muy joven trabajó para mantener a su familia, trabajando como telefonista, camarera y costurera.
Para Guadalupe, la familia era lo más importante, y siempre tenía tiempo para escuchar, compartir una comida y amar incondicionalmente. Vivía la escritura de Juan 13:34-35: “Amaos los unos a los otros. Como yo os he amado, también amaos los unos a los otros. En esto conocerán todos que sois mis discípulos, si os amáis los unos a los otros”.
A Guadalupe Valero Salmon le sobreviven sus tres hijos, ocho nietos, once bisnietos y dos tataranietos.
Mañana viernes a las 7:00 se celebrará un rosario en honor a Guadalupe en la Iglesia Católica de Nuestra Señora de la Paz en Alpine.
Se llevará a cabo una celebración de la vida el sábado a las 10:00 a. m. en la Iglesia Católica Nuestra Señora de la Paz y luego el entierro en el Cementerio Holy Angels.

Este fin de semana, el Rodeo Ranchero Big Bend celebra 25 años reuniendo a vaqueros trabajadores para mostrar su trabajo diario en el rancho, desde el ordeño y el marcado de vacas salvajes hasta el cuidado de los caballos y la monta de caballos salvajes.
El evento de dos días se lleva a cabo en el estadio S.A.L.E. de la Universidad Estatal Sul Ross y contará con la participación de equipos rancheros de Texas, Nuevo México y Arizona.
En declaraciones a K-V-L-F, Mattie Sargent informó que el evento comienza mañana (viernes) a las 5:30 p. m.
menciono: “Las puertas abrirán para la venta de boletos; no tenemos preventa de boletos; deben comprarse en la puerta. Tenemos una feria comercial allí para visitar y tendremos puestos de comida para que puedan disfrutar de una buena cena. El rodeo comenzará a las 7:00 p. m. con la entrada principal. Normalmente terminamos entre las 9:30 y las 10:00 p. m.”.
Sargent afirma que el evento de este año también incluye 10 equipos juveniles, todos menores de 17 años, que compiten en eventos similares a los de los adultos.
El sábado, la función final comienza a las 7:00, seguida de la ceremonia de premiación.
