Estefana R. Granado passed away peacefully on July 12, surrounded by her family. She was 93.
Estefana was born in 1931, in San Ignacio, Chihuahua, Mexico, and just over twelve years later she immigrated to the United States. She married the love of her life, Francisco “Kiko” Granado on March 24, 1948, and together they had and raised four children.
Estefana was a woman of deep faith, love for her family, and found joy in singing Spanish gospel. One of her proudest achievements was gaining her citizenship in the 90’s because it was important to her to have the ability to vote and make a difference. She was known for her strong work ethic and worked for various businesses, ranches, and individuals in the Fort Davis area, where she shared her talents in cooking, cleaning, and baking. She also cared for and nurtured many children including her most beloved Malcolm Duncan and many nieces/ nephews who considered her a mother figure.
Estefana is survived by her three children, nine grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.
A viewing for Esetefana will be held at Mobile Mortician of Fort Davis on Wednesday, July 16 at 6:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at Fort Davis 1st Baptist Church on Thursday at 10:00 a.m., with burial services to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.

The Brewster County Groundwater Conservation District holds its regular meeting later this week.
Among other items on the agenda is a discussion and potential action related to newly ordered monitoring equipment.
The conservation district, which manages groundwater resources in the county, meets on Thursday, July 17 at 8 a.m.

This weekend, the Sunshine House is hosting a chuckwagon supper to raise funds to refurbish and model its new location.
In an interview with KVLF, Lonnie Rodriguez said the supper will help the nonprofit, which provides meals and social enrichment for seniors, the homebound and disabled.
RODRIGUEZ: “It’s a wonderful program, the Sunshine House, what they do. They’re cooking somewhere in the neighborhood of 250 meals a day. They deliver not only to Alpine, but now they’ve included Marathon over there.”
The fundraiser is Saturday, July 19 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the historic Ole Crystal Bar, located at 410 E Holland.
The Moonshiners featuring Butch Hancock will provide the music for the night.
Tickets are $100, and all ticket sales will be matched dollar for dollar by the Still Water Foundation and the Permian Basin Area Foundation.

Also this weekend, the Marfa Public Library presents a free documentary screening.
The film – Unsound – follows eight musicians as they transform their struggles with mental health into art and create an album in the process.
There are two screenings this weekend and both will include a discussion with one of the producers on the album.
The documentary shows at the library on Saturday, July 19 and on Sunday, from 7:30 to 8:45 p.m.

Estefana R. Granado falleció pacíficamente el 12 de julio, rodeada de su familia. Tenía 93 años.
Estefana nació en 1931 en San Ignacio, Chihuahua, México, y poco más de doce años después emigró a Estados Unidos. Se casó con el amor de su vida, Francisco “Kiko” Granado, el 24 de marzo de 1948, y juntos tuvieron y criaron cuatro hijos.
Estefana fue una mujer de profunda fe, amor por su familia y encontraba alegría cantando evangelios en español. Uno de sus logros más importantes fue obtener su ciudadanía en la década de 1990, ya que para ella era importante poder votar y marcar la diferencia. Era conocida por su sólida ética de trabajo y trabajó para diversos negocios, ranchos y particulares en el área de Fort Davis, donde compartió sus talentos en la cocina, la limpieza y la repostería. También cuidó y crió a muchos niños, incluyendo a su querido Malcolm Duncan y a muchos sobrinos y sobrinas que la consideraban una figura materna. A Estefana le sobreviven sus tres hijos, nueve nietos, 22 bisnietos y cuatro tataranietos.
El velatorio de Estefana se llevará a cabo en la Funeraria Móvil de Fort Davis el miércoles 16 de julio a las 6:00.
El funeral se llevará a cabo en la Primera Iglesia Bautista de Fort Davis el jueves a las 10:00, seguido del entierro en el Cementerio de San José.

El Distrito de Conservación de Aguas Subterráneas del Condado de Brewster celebrará su reunión ordinaria a finales de esta semana.
