October 2 – 2 de octubre

I’m Carlos Morales and this is your local news.

Alpine ISD is preparing to begin renovating Manuel Payne Field at Kokernot Park.

Superintendent Michelle Rinehart says the district will hold a ground-breaking ceremony next week on Wednesday, Oct. 7.

The $1.5 million dollar project will be split between the city of Alpine and the district. During Buck Banter on KVLF, Rinehart said the renovation project will be QUOTE “a near complete overhaul of Manuel Payne Field.”

RINEHART1: “It’ll include upgrading the playing surface to a turf field, which will address some of the persistent challenges we’ve had with gopher holes in the outfield. We will be keeping the shade awnings on both sides, both kind of fan sections, but replacing the stands underneath them.” (0:17)

Other renovations include adding a grand stand and a press box behind home plate, replacing the scoreboard, adding batting cages and bull-pens to the field.

The ground breaking ceremony will be at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Rinehart said the project will be complete by January 2027.
