Today, the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will host a seminar on the New World screwworm for livestock producers, landowners and wildlife managers in Culberson County.
The meeting is at the Van Horn Convention Center. The seminar starts at 3:00 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

Tomorrow (TUESDAY), Brewster County officials will hold the next commissioners court, where they’re set to review the proposed budget for the next year.
As part of the meeting’s agenda, officials will also receive their regular department updates – including emergency management, road and bridge, and county comptroller.
The next commissioners court will be Tuesday, Aug. 25 at 9:30 a.m.

All this week, the Small Business Development Center at Sul Ross State University is hosting training sessions for business owners.
In the first training session, you’ll learn how to use Google Gemini to streamline everyday business workflows for you so you can focus on bigger tasks. That workshop is tomorrow (TUESDAY) from 11:00 a.m. to noon.
Then, on Thursday, Aug. 27, learn even more about how AI tools can help you and your business. In this one-hour training, you’ll learn when and how to use AI strategically to tackle common business challenges. That session is from 11:00 a.m. to noon.

For just one more week, Alpine Animal Services will be taking part in the nationwide initiative “Clear the Shelters” to promote local pet adoptions and raise funds for shelters and rescues.
As part of the effort, Alpine Animal Services Shelter is offering half-off price adoptions for the whole month of August. You can see all of the animals up for adoption – just visit the Alpine Animal Services Shelter, located at 2900 Old Marathon Hwy. You can also search for pets online using Petfinder.com.
The shelter is open seven days a week from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 to 6:00 p.m.

At the end of the month (AUGUST), the Alpine Cemetery Association will hold a community meeting to discuss the aging irrigation system at the Elm Grove cemetery.
According to the association, the underground water lines are over 50 years old and the cemetery’s irrigation system now experiences frequent line breaks on top of issues with the cemetery’s water wells. The group says simple fixes are no longer working and finding a “permanent solution will require the ideas, support and collaboration of the families who care most about Elm Grove.”
The community meeting will be Wednesday, Aug. 26 at 6:00 p.m. at the Alpine ISD auditorium.

Next month (SEPTEMBER), St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Marfa will host a golf tournament fundraiser.
The tournament will be a two-man scramble. Entry is $120 per team with lunch included.
All proceeds go to the operation of St. Mary’s Church.
The two-man scramble takes place Sept. 26 with registration beginning at 8:00 a.m. and the shotgun start at 10:00 a.m.

Next month (SEPTEMBER), the Governor’s small business summit is heading to Brewster County and will help connect small business owners and entrepreneurs with the resources they need to start, strengthen and grow their business.
The Small Business Summit takes place Thursday, September 17 from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Morgan University Center, located at the Sul Ross campus in Alpine.
