Good evening, today is Tuesday, February 15th, and I’m Hector Montemayor-Perez.
A Memorial Service James William Wells will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Christian Church in Marfa. He died December 8 at age 69.
Jim Bill wished for an ash scattering ceremony at Corpus Christi Bay.
He was born in Marfa on March 4, 1952, and spent much of his childhood and adolescence on the Brite Ranch.
Jim Bill attended Sul Ross State University and would often frequent dances and parties in Ojinaga where he met the love of his life, Minerva Villa.
They lived in Marfa where Jim Bill worked for his father’s Nuway Grocery. Later, he worked for the Welsh family as manager of their local grocery stores.
Then the family relocated to Presidio where he opened and manage a new Welch family grocery store.
Jim Bill is survived by his wife, three children, a sister and several grandchildren.

The Fort Stockton man and his daughter, missing for more than two weeks, have been located alive and well in Mexico.
Hector Flores Jr., and his nine-year-old daughter Luna were found Sunday in the state of Coahuila adjacent to Big Bend National Park, where they first were reported missing.
They were last seen on January 28 when they traveled from Fort Stockton in his pickup, which later was found abandoned in the park.
It was along the northern end of the remote Old Ore Road and many of their personal belongings were found inside, leading to speculation they may have gone hiking.
But a search of the park turned up nothing.
Residents of a Mexican community notified officials Sunday that a man and young girl fitting the description of Hector and Luna were in the area trying to buy food.
Mexico State Police were able to reach the area and confirm their identities Monday afternoon. Both were reported to be in healthy condition.
The two were detained by Mexican authorities and were to have been returned to the United States to reunite with family members Tuesday.
Many agencies on both sides of the Rio Grande took part in the search lasting more than a week.
They included the Park Service, the F.B.I., U.S. Border Patrol, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Fort Stockton Police Department and Texas D.P.S. from this side.
Across the border, residents of Boquillas, Mexican officials and Mexican State Police have been looking for the two since February 5 when their truck was discovered.
An investigation into this incident is still underway. No other information currently is available.
Democrat Candidate Mimi Smith stopped by KVLF to state her case for Brewster County Judge Tuesday.
Smith said that because she is an actual lawyer, it will ensure that the code of Judicial conduct will be applied, which hasn’t been done before.
Smith: “It’s a very strict code that ensures no conflict of interest, no excessive partisanship, no self-serving or self-dealing. I will have no business except for the job itself. The people of Brewster County will be my only boss.”
Apart from a devotion to transparency, Smith also will prioritize the hospital district, juvenile program reform and social programs through strict budget implementation.
Smith: “That just means everybody gets to see every single thing we’re doing. If there’s a meeting, if there’s a consultation, it’s written up. So you can find out what’s going on and what’s not going on.”
Smith is running for the Democrat nomination against Benjamin Barrientes and Oscar Cobos.
The winner of that race faces the winner in the Republicans Primary among Greg Henington, Monty Kimble and Ryan Skelton.
Early voting currently is underway for the March 1 Primaries.
