Tomorrow morning (TUESDAY), Brewster County officials will hold the next commissioners court. According to an agenda for the meeting, commissioners will discuss and potentially take action on updating the policy for charging for public information requests. They’ll also talk about approving a school resource officer agreement between Alpine ISD and the County.
Commissioners will also receive updates from county departments, including tourism, emergency management, and the road and bridge department.
Commissioners meet Tuesday, August 11 at the county courthouse in Alpine.

All this month (AUGUST), Alpine Animal Services is taking part in the nationwide initiative “Clear the Shelters” to promote local pet adoptions and raise funds for shelters and rescues.
As part of the effort, Alpine Animal Services Shelter is offering half-off price adoptions for the whole month of August. You can see all of the animals up for adoption – just visit the Alpine Animal Services Shelter, located at 2900 Old Marathon Hwy.
The shelter is open seven days a week from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 to 6:00 p.m.

This weekend, the Alpine Country Club and Los Compas Golf will host a golf benefit for the DPS trooper that was involved in a head-on collision outside the city in June.
The event is a three-person scramble, and the entry fee is $75 per person, or $225 per team. There is a 54 team limit.
The benefit takes place Aug. 15 with morning tee time at 7:30 a.m. and the afternoon tee time at 1:30 p.m.
Proceeds will go toward trooper Zach Vasquez who continues to recover from the accident.

At the end of August, head to Front Street Books for a meet-and-greet with local author Lucy Griffith. She’s the author of the new poetry book, “Songs of the Ocotillo.”
The collection is a collaboration between Griffith and Marfa resident Darlene Marwitz. The work mixes poetry with visual art – all while paying homage to the Ocotillo.
The meet-and-greet and book signing takes place Friday, August 21 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.

Next month (SEPTEMBER), the Governor’s small business summit is heading to Brewster County and will help connect small business owners and entrepreneurs with the resources they need to start, strengthen and grow their business.
The Small Business Summit takes place Thursday, September 17 from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Morgan University Center, located at the Sul Ross campus in Alpine.

The Museum of the Big Bend has announced the dates for the next Trappings of Texas, the annual exhibition and celebration of Western art, culture and cowboy gear.
The event – which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year – is considered the longest-running exhibit and sale of its kind – and is known for bringing together artists and craftspeople whose work display the traditions of the Big Bend and cowboy culture.
This year’s event takes place from Thursday, Sept. 17 through Saturday, Oct. 31 at the museum, which is located on the campus of Sul Ross State University in Alpine.

El Museum of the Big Bend ha anunciado las fechas para la próxima edición de *Trappings of Texas*, la exposición y celebración anual dedicada al arte, la cultura y la indumentaria vaquera del Oeste.
El evento —que este año celebra su cuadragesimo 40.º aniversario— se considera la exposición y venta de su tipo con mayor trayectoria, y es reconocido por reunir a artistas y artesanos cuyas obras reflejan las tradiciones de la región de Big Bend y la cultura vaquera.
La edición de este año se desarrollará desde el jueves 17 de septiembre hasta el sábado 31 de octubre en el museo, situado en el campus de la Universidad Estatal Sul Ross (Sul Ross State University) en Alpine.
