Jerad Shipman, the San Angelo man charged with multiple felonies stemming from an incident at an Alpine hotel last week remains in Brewster County Jail.
According to the Big Bend Sentinel, the charges against Shipman include kidnapping, aggravated sexual assault, and aggravated assault. His bail is set at $1.2 million. A week ago, law enforcement agencies responded to a call at the Holiday Inn Express and Suites off Highway 90, where they QUOTE “discovered that a male suspect had produced a firearm and threatened the victim.” Eventually, the woman Shipman was with was able to leave and report the incident while Shipman “remained in the room,” according to police.
The Sentinel reports that Shipman refused to leave the hotel room until he could speak with an attorney.
It was nearly 2-and-a-half hours before Shipman exited the room and was taken into custody.

Across the Permian Basin and throughout the Trans Pecos region, storm chances will increase and continue through tomorrow (TUESDAY) night.
According to the National Weather Service office in Midland, there’s anywhere from a 30 to 50% chance of scattered storms in the Alpine area. Forecasters say the strongest storms will be capable of producing large hail, damaging winds, and may result in localized flash flooding from heavy rainfall.

Tomorrow (TUESDAY), is Election Day in the Republican and Democratic primary runoffs.
In the Republican primary, the race for a seat in the U.S. Senate is heating up with incumbent John Cornyn facing a fierce challenge from Ken Paxton, the former Attorney General. Heading into tomorrow’s (TUESDAY’S) election, Paxton received an endorsement from President Trump, which will give Paxton a significant boost in what’s been a tough primary battle.
The winner of the Republican Primary will face James Talarico, the Democratic candidate in the race, in the November election.

Tomorrow (TUESDAY), the Jeff Davis County Library in Fort Davis presents a day with author and artist Rachel Más Davidson.
Beginning Tuesday morning at 10:00 a.m., the library will host an improv story time with Davidson and invite children to create an original story and a group illustration. And at 1 p.m., Davidson will talk about what it’s like to be a professional artist and narrate the items on exhibit.

The Big Bend Arts Council is calling on all artists to submit work for their next show “Landscapes, Near and Far.”
The take-in deadline for the show is June 2 at Big Bend Gallery, located at 121 W. Holland Ave. Artwork may be brought in before the end of the workday, the gallery’s open Thursday through Tuesday, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
An opening reception for the show is Friday, June 5 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the gallery.

This weekend, Big Bend Telephone will host their third annual golf tournament at the Alpine Country Club.
The tournament is a three-person scramble with 27 overall teams competing for the top spot. Entry is $85 per person and proceeds benefit the Alpine Humane Society.
The scramble is May 30 with tee off beginning at 9:00 a.m.

Big Bend National Park has three internship openings that start soon (JUNE). The work ranges from administrative and maintenance related to interpretation and education.
The administrative support assistant intern will provide clerical support for staff at Big Bend National Park headquarters. The intern working in interpretation and education will have an opportunity to train in supporting, creating, and presenting interpretation programs. And the intern working in the maintenance and facilities department will assist in performing routine and straightforward maintenance and repair of the park grounds, structures, buildings, equipment and related utilities.
All three internship roles come with a living stipend and some money to help cover relocation costs.

En toda la Cuenca del Pérmico y a lo largo de la región de Trans-Pecos, aumentarán las probabilidades de tormentas, las cuales persistirán hasta la noche de mañana (MARTES).
Según la oficina del Servicio Meteorológico Nacional en Midland, existe entre un 30 y un 50 % de probabilidad de tormentas dispersas en el área de Alpine. Los meteorólogos indican que las tormentas más intensas podrían generar granizo de gran tamaño y vientos dañinos, y podrían provocar inundaciones repentinas localizadas debido a las fuertes lluvias.

Este fin de semana, Big Bend Telephone organizará su tercer torneo anual de golf en el Alpine Country Club.

El Parque Nacional Big Bend cuenta con tres vacantes para pasantías que comenzarán próximamente (en JUNIO). Las labores abarcan desde tareas administrativas y de mantenimiento hasta actividades relacionadas con la interpretación y la educación.
El pasante de apoyo administrativo brindará asistencia de oficina al personal en la sede central del Parque Nacional Big Bend. El pasante del área de interpretación y educación tendrá la oportunidad de capacitarse en el apoyo, la creación y la presentación de programas interpretativos. Por su parte, el pasante del departamento de mantenimiento e instalaciones colaborará en la realización de tareas rutinarias y sencillas de mantenimiento y reparación de los terrenos, estructuras, edificios, equipos y servicios públicos asociados del parque.
Las tres pasantías incluyen un estipendio para gastos de manutención, así como una ayuda económica para cubrir parte de los costos de traslado.
