Transcript:

The City of Alpine expects to begin drilling a new municipal water well this week to help address water issues that have troubled the city since late last month (APRIL).

The new well will replace Roberts #3, which suffered mechanical failure, leading to water restrictions across the city.

Carlos Morales has more.

The city says the project to replace the decades-old well, Roberts #3, is a “significant long-term investment” in the city’s water infrastructure – it’s a costly and time-consuming process.

And on top of drilling the new well, the city is also looking to bring online a previously used well to help stabilize the city’s water system. Once available, officials hope the additional source will reduce the need to transport water, which the city is currently doing as part of its emergency response efforts.

Meanwhile, stage 4 water restrictions remain in place.

The mandatory limits are for residents receiving water directly from the city’s water system. The measures restrict residents from using water for outdoor irrigation, landscape watering, and generally limit water usage to essential health and safety needs only.

Residents and businesses may continue to use private wells and other water sources that aren’t connected to the city.
