Monday evening, the Alpine Police Department responded to a call at a hotel off Highway 90. And according to a press release, while there, officers QUOTE “discovered that a male suspect had produced a firearm and threatened the victim.” Eventually, she was able to leave and report the incident while the suspect “remained in the room,” according to police.
The department says the suspect did come out willingly and was taken into custody.
The incident is being investigated, and police expect additional charges against the suspect.

Later this week, the Small Business Development Center at Sul Ross State University will offer courses for entrepreneurs.
This week’s online course will take business owners through the “One Big Beautiful Bill” and its tax provisions. Over the hourlong training, you’ll learn about changes brought on by the bill, reporting requirements and changes to cost recovery and expensing provisions among other things.
The training is Thursday, May 21 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Big Bend National Park has three internship openings that start soon (JUNE). The work ranges from administrative and maintenance related to interpretation and education.
The administrative support assistant intern will provide clerical support for staff at Big Bend National Park headquarters. The intern working in interpretation and education will have an opportunity to train in supporting, creating, and presenting interpretation programs. And the intern working in the maintenance and facilities department will assist in performing routine and straightforward maintenance and repair of the park grounds, structures, buildings, equipment and related utilities.
All three internship roles come with a living stipend and some money to help cover relocation costs.

A reminder: Alpine ISD is offering used turf from Buck Stadium to community members. The giveaway is part of the district’s renovation efforts to the field, which are underway.
The rolls are approximately 20 x 40-feet long and weigh close to 1,800 pounds. Pick up and transportation are the responsibility of the recipient.
Any person or organization interested in a roll of used turf can inquire about the offer by filling out a form at tinyurl.com/BuckStadiumTurf.

The event includes an auction as well, and will be held on August 15.

Y, según un comunicado de prensa, una vez en el lugar, los agentes «descubrieron que un sospechoso de sexo masculino había sacado un arma de fuego y amenazado a la víctima». Finalmente, ella logró salir y denunciar el incidente, mientras que el sospechoso «permaneció en la habitación», según la policía.
El departamento informa que el sospechoso salió voluntariamente y fue puesto bajo custodia.
El incidente está siendo investigado, y la policía prevé presentar cargos adicionales contra el sospechoso.

El Parque Nacional Big Bend cuenta con tres vacantes para pasantías que comenzarán próximamente (en JUNIO). Las labores abarcan desde tareas administrativas y de mantenimiento hasta actividades relacionadas con la interpretación y la educación.
El pasante de apoyo administrativo brindará asistencia de oficina al personal en la sede central del Parque Nacional Big Bend. El pasante del área de interpretación y educación tendrá la oportunidad de capacitarse en el apoyo, la creación y la presentación de programas de interpretación. Por su parte, el pasante del departamento de mantenimiento e instalaciones colaborará en la realización de tareas rutinarias y sencillas de mantenimiento y reparación de los terrenos, estructuras, edificios, equipos y servicios públicos asociados del parque.
Las tres pasantías incluyen un estipendio para gastos de manutención, así como una ayuda económica para cubrir parte de los costos de traslado.
