The City of Alpine is implementing water restrictions in response to declining water supply levels and increased demand.
The Stage 3 restrictions are part of the city’s drought response and set forth mandatory water conservation measures for residents and businesses in hopes of reaching a 20% reduction in daily water use.
Under the restrictions, watering is only allowed between the 6:00 and 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 to 10:00 p.m. Residents and businesses are also prohibited from using sprinkles, irrigation systems and washing sidewalks, driveways or paved surfaces.
In an interview with KVLF, Mayor Catharine Eaves said the water restrictions are due to a failing water well in the Sunny Glen area.
EAVES1: “We’ve had contractors looking at it, and it just reached a critical point this week to where the water was about 25% capacity of the well, and we were losing water rapidly.” (0:18)
According to the mayor, installing a new water pump could address the issue and could be installed as soon as Friday.

On Saturday, Alpine Fire Rescue is hosting their annual spaghetti dinner fundraiser.
The dinner will be prepared and served by Alpine Firefighters – and plates are $12 each.
Proceeds from the event will go to Alpine Fire Rescue, and table donations will go toward the AVFD Junior Fire program.
Tickets can be purchased from any Alpine Firefighter, or at Traci’s Vapor Emporium.
The spaghetti dinner will be May 2 at the American Legion in Alpine from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m

City officials will hold the next city council meeting next week.
The next city council meeting will be Tuesday, May 5 at 5:30 p.m. at the city council chambers, which is located at 803 W. Holland Avenue.

The Alpine Business Coalition, a newly formed group, will hold their first meeting next month.
The group is open to anyone interested in joining, but especially business owners, including home-based businesses.
The group’s first meeting is Thursday, May 7 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Old Schoolhouse, located at 205 E. Sul Ross

The benefit will be Monday, May 11, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The meal–which comes with a hamburger, chips, a drink, and dessert–has a suggested minimum donation of $6.

In May, Leadership Big Bend will host a volunteer event at Sul Ross.
The volunteer event will give the tri-county area an opportunity to connect with and get involved in different nonprofit groups across the region. You’ll learn about all the ways you can volunteer and support your community.
The volunteer event will be May 13, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Sul Ross State University.

“Lights Out, Texas,” a statewide campaign to reduce the mortality rates of migratory birds, is now underway.
Help birds that fly over Texas during their migratory season by turning off all non-essential lights at your home, building or any other structures from 11:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. each night. Lights Out Texas asks you don’t use landscape lighting for trees or gardens where birds may be resting. You can also close blinds at night to reduce the amount of light being emitted from windows.
The lights out campaign happens until June 15 for birds’ springtime migration.

La ciudad de Alpine está implementando restricciones de agua en respuesta a la disminución de los niveles de suministro y al aumento de la demanda.
Las restricciones de la Fase 3 forman parte de la respuesta de la ciudad a la sequía y establecen medidas obligatorias de conservación del agua para residentes y negocios con la esperanza de lograr una reducción del 20% en el consumo diario.
Según las restricciones, el riego solo está permitido entre las 6:00 y las 8:00 a. m. y entre las 8:00 y las 10:00 p. m. También se prohíbe a residentes y negocios el uso de aspersores, sistemas de riego y el lavado de aceras, entradas de vehículos o superficies pavimentadas.
En una entrevista con KVLF, la alcaldesa Catharine Eaves declaró que las restricciones de agua se deben a la falla de un pozo de agua en el área de Sunny Glen.

Este sábado, Alpine Fire Rescue celebrará su cena anual de espagueti para recaudar fondos.
La cena será preparada y servida por los bomberos de Alpine, y cada plato tendrá un costo de $12.
Los fondos recaudados en el evento se destinarán a Alpine Fire Rescue, mientras que las donaciones recibidas en las mesas se destinarán al programa de Bomberos Juveniles de la AVFD.

«Lights Out, Texas» (Luces Apagadas, Texas), una campaña a nivel estatal para reducir las tasas de mortalidad de las aves migratorias, ya está en marcha.
