Tomorrow (FRIDAY) and Saturday, the Trad Family Theater presents “Jack the Bold and the Missing Gold.”
The original play tells the story of a page boy who’s training to become a knight and working to solve a mystery with the help of his friends.
Carrie Karleen is the play’s director, and her daughter Nicole wrote it. The theater troupe is part of homeschool co-op Carrie runs.
KARLEEN1: And so we’ve done this several times now as a group. And so we just named our group Trad Family Theater, because we really like to produce plays that are meaningful and enjoyable for families–working with the kids to start with and then presenting it also for families to watch.”
The first performance of “Jack the Bold and the Missing Gold” is Friday at 1:00 p.m. at the Alpine ISD building auditorium. A second performance will be held Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
The event is free and open to the public.

On Friday, Sul Ross State University will host the inaugural Borderlands Open Access Symposium.
The virtual event will bring together educators and researchers to talk about innovative teaching and research practices throughout the borderlands and beyond.
The event is Friday, April 24, from 10 a.m. to noon.

The Alpine Business Coalition, a newly formed group, will hold their first meeting next month.
The group is open to anyone interested in joining, but especially business owners, including home-based businesses.
The group’s first meeting is Thursday, May 7 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Old Schoolhouse, located at 205 E. Sul Ross

Next month, Alpine Fire Rescue is hosting their annual spaghetti dinner fundraiser.
The dinner will be prepared and served by Alpine Firefighters – and plates are $12 each.
Proceeds from the event will go to Alpine Fire Rescue, and table donations will go toward the AVFD Junior Fire program.
Tickets can be purchased from any Alpine Firefighter, or at Traci’s Vapor Emporium.
The spaghetti dinner will be May 2 at the American Legion in Alpine from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Next month (MAY), the city of Alpine will host its next bulk trash pick-up.
The city will haul away your trash the week of May 4. And you’ll have between Monday, April 27 and Friday, May 1 before noon to schedule your pick up.
Each household is limited to 5 items or 3 cubic yards worth items to be picked up.

In May, Leadership Big Bend will host a volunteer event at Sul Ross.
The volunteer event will give the tri-county area an opportunity to connect with and get involved in different nonprofit groups across the region. You’ll learn about all the ways you can volunteer and support your community.
The volunteer event will be May 13, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Sul Ross State University.

El viernes, la Universidad Estatal Sul Ross será la anfitriona del primer Simposio de Acceso Abierto de la Región Fronteriza (*Borderlands Open Access Symposium*).

Alpine Business Coalition, un grupo de reciente formación, celebrará su primera reunión el próximo mes.
