The Big Bend Wildlife and Wine Festival kicks off tomorrow (TUESDAY) and continues for the next few days.
The second annual event will bring together a stacked lineup of musicians, food vendors including CowDog and Bock Burger and different wine vendors.
Kaci Kothmann is one of the event organizers. In an interview with KVLF, she said the festival will also focus on wildlife.
KOTHMANN1: “Our special focus this year, which is Big Bend snakes with Wayne Howell and his family doing education all day all three days, sharing their passion with our guests.” (0:13)
Brock Estes also helped put together the event. He said the wine vendors all represent award-winning Texas wineries.
ESTES1: “The wine vendors are going to be myself, representing Fly Gap winery, we got Kerville Hills winery, a winery called Nobleman Wines and then Rivenburgh Wines. So there’s four wineries, and each winery has quite a few medals under their belt and really, really thriving in the emerging Texas wine scene.” (0:26)

Tomorrow (TUESDAY), the Texas Department of Transportation continues their tour of West Texas towns to discuss transportation projects.
The remaining meetings are in Presidio and Alpine – and attendees will have an opportunity to review and weigh-in on proposed projects coming to the region through the department’s rural transportation improvement program.
The Alpine meeting is tomorrow (TUESDAY) from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Alpine TxDot office. And the meeting in Presidio will be March 11 at the PAC from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.

Later this week, the Nature Conservancy will host the first of two guided tours of our Davis Mountains Preserve.
The hikes will be Friday, March 13 and again on Friday, March 20. On the hikes, you’ll learn about the beautiful Davis Mountains sky island ecosystem.
Reservations and a high clearance vehicle are required.

The city of Alpine is now accepting applications for the city’s community service grant program.
The program provides grant funding for nonprofits that provide services that benefit people in Alpine. Grant proposals must touch on any of the following areas: basic needs and services for the elderly, basic needs and services for people with lower incomes, educational resources, domestic violence and assault relief, and youth sports and recreation.
Applications can be found online at cityofalpine.com.
The window to apply is open through Friday, April 17 at 5:00 p.m.

Later this month and again in April, Sul Ross State University’s Rio Grande College of Business is offering to help you with your tax preparation and filing free of charge.
The services are for low-income individuals, those with disability and limited English proficiency. The types of return the college will help with include simple 1040s, W2 income, social security income, retirement income and contract labor.
The next time they’ll offer filing assistance is March 21 from 9:00 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Centennial Building in Alpine, located at 500 W. Ave H, suite 112.
Other dates include: 28 and April 4.

Next month (APRIL), the AgriLife Extension service in Brewster and Jeff Davis counties hosts the Far West Texas Ag and Wildlife Tax Valuation Seminar.
The event will be Friday, April 10 in Alpine and will feature presentations covering all aspects of ag and wildlife tax valuations. Also, any real estate agents who attend will receive five elective continuing education credits.

Mañana (MARTES), el Departamento de Transporte de Texas continúa su gira por pueblos del oeste de Texas para discutir proyectos de transporte.

A finales de esta semana, Nature Conservancy organizará la primera de dos visitas guiadas a nuestra Reserva de las Montañas Davis.
Las caminatas se realizarán el viernes 13 de marzo y nuevamente el viernes 20 de marzo. En ellas, aprenderá sobre el hermoso ecosistema de islas aéreas de las Montañas Davis.
Se requiere reservación y un vehículo de gran cilindrada.

La ciudad de Alpine ya acepta solicitudes para su programa de subvenciones para servicios comunitarios.
El programa ofrece subvenciones a organizaciones sin fines de lucro que prestan servicios que benefician a los residentes de Alpine. Las propuestas deben abordar cualquiera de las siguientes áreas: necesidades y servicios básicos para personas mayores, necesidades y servicios básicos para personas con bajos ingresos, recursos educativos, ayuda para víctimas de violencia doméstica y agresión, y deportes y recreación juvenil.

A finales de este mes y nuevamente en abril, la Facultad de Negocios de Río Grande de la Universidad Estatal Sul Ross ofrece asistencia gratuita con la preparación y declaración de impuestos.
Estos servicios están dirigidos a personas de bajos ingresos, personas con discapacidad o con dominio limitado del inglés. Entre los tipos de declaraciones que la facultad ayudará se incluyen formularios 1040 simples, ingresos W-2, ingresos del Seguro Social, ingresos de jubilación y mano de obra subcontratada.

El evento tendrá lugar el viernes 10 de abril en Alpine y contará con presentaciones que abarcarán todos los aspectos de la valuación fiscal de la agricultura y la fauna silvestre. Además, los agentes inmobiliarios asistentes recibirán cinco créditos electivos de educación continua.
