During last night’s (TUESDAY’S) council meeting, officials reviewed tourism trends for the city of Alpine.
Chris Ruggia heads up the city’s tourism department. He told council members that part of the trends show the areas where most visitors are coming from. The largest market: the Midland-Odessa area, which Ruggia said isn’t surprising.
RUGGIA1: “That is between 26 and 30% of our visitation in Alpine. San Antonio is our second biggest, which has been an increase over the last three years or so, they were probably number 6 and they’ve moved steadily up. El Paso, that is pretty new. That has been a lot of growth in visitation.” (0:20)
Tourism trends show that on average visitors from Austin, Houston and the Waco area spend the most amount of time on average in Alpine.

The hotel Paisaino in Marfa has new owners. That’s according to the Big Bend Sentinel, which reports the deal to purchase the historic hotel is still under contract, but that the new owners hope to close by the summer.
Lauren Werner King and her husband Harrison King will take over the hotel, which is part of a slate of West Texas hotels designed by the famous El Paso architect Henry Trost. Werner King told the Sentinel that the couple is excited to take on the property and all it a QUOTE “dream project.”

The local nonprofit Alpine Community Projects is inviting business owners in the area for a meetup tomorrow (THURSDAY).
On Thursday from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., meet with other business owners to connect ,share ideas and think of areas to potentially collaborate.
The meet up will be held at the offices for the Carpenter Real Estate Legacy Broker group, located at 708 East Avenue East, Suite 6226 in Alpine.

Tickets for this month’s (FEBRUARY) Lonestar Cowboy Poetry Gathering are still available.
The gathering starts tomorrow, February 19, and over the course of three days, the event will bring together poets, musicians and storytellers from all over to honor the history and culture of cowboying – performed by those who have lived it.

Early voting in the March primaries continues this week and runs through next Friday, February 27.
In Brewster County, early voting for all precincts takes place at the Judge Val Clark Beard Complex at 203 North 7th Street in Alpine.
This week, polls will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. And on Saturday, February 21, you can vote from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The pet-rescue One Tail at a Time West Texas invites the public to attend the group’s fundraiser later this month (FEBRUARY).
On Saturday, February 28, starting at 5 p.m., head to the Sentinel in Marfa for food, drinks and music.
The organization serves several areas including Presidio, Van Horn and Alpine.

El hotel Paisano en Marfa tiene nuevos dueños. Así lo informa el Big Bend Sentinel, que informa que el acuerdo para la compra del histórico hotel aún está en proceso de cierre, pero los nuevos propietarios esperan cerrarlo para el verano.
