Tomorrow (SATURDAY) and Sunday, the Davis Mountains State Park, Indian Lodge, and the Black Bear restaurant are hosting a job fair.
There are several openings, including cooking positions at the restaurant and custodial work at the Indian Lodge.
The first job fair is Saturday, February 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Presidio at the Presidio County Courthouse in Marfa. There will be another one on Sunday, at the same time, at the Alpine Visitor Center.
All jobs include healthcare benefits and paid time off.

The menu for this month’s Cowboy Poetry Gathering is now available – and any one attending the three-day event needs to get in their meal requests in advance.
On Thursday, February 19, dinner will be oven-fried chicken with green chile cream gravy, scalloped potatoes, green beans with bacon, a green goddess salad, biscuits, peach cobbler, tea, and water.
Friday’s menu consists of brisket with maple BBQ sauce, charro beans, baked potato salad, a green salad with ranch and chopped vegetables, Texas toast bread and pickles, chocolate chunk cookies, tea, and water.
And on Saturday, the final meal for the gathering will be pot roast with gravy, cheesy mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, warm dinner rolls, apple crisp, tea, and water.
Each meal is $33 in advance and includes tax and tip. The deadline to order is Friday, February 13.

This month, the Alpine Humane Society will hold a fundraiser to help bring a vet clinic to Terlingua.
The clinic will provide spaying, neutering, vaccinations and microchipping services for south county residents.
The fundraiser will be Sunday, February 22 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Venga. There will be food, music, a cash-bar, a pet costume contest and other activities.

In the next two weeks, Big Bend Health will hold two community town halls on the future of healthcare in the region.
New healthcare funding is coming to rural communities, and Big Bend Health wants to hear from residents on how to improve local services. In the meetings, you’ll hear about the new healthcare funding and talk about local needs.
The town halls are open to the public, and you don’t have to RSVP to attend.
The first community town hall is next week on Wednesday, Feb. 11 at the Presidio Activity Center from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
The next town hall will be Tuesday, Feb. 17 at the Alpine Public Library from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Next week, the Granada Theater in Alpine will host “A Little Ray of Sunshine,” a night of music to fundraise for the Sunshine House.
Billy Mata and the Texas Tradition will perform a tribute to Ray Price, the Ole’ Cherokee Cowboy – and 100% of the proceeds will benefit Sunshine House’s meals on wheels program.
The fundraiser will be Thursday, Feb. 12 at 7 p.m. at the Granada Theater.
Tickets are $35, and a cash bar opens at 6 p.m.

At the end of the month, the Chihuahuan Desert Research Institute will hold their second annual Seed Swap.
To participate, bring any seeds you collected over the past year to share with others, and remember, the seeds must be native to the Trans-Pecos region, must have been harvested last fall and shouldn’t be hybrids.
The swap will be Saturday, Feb. 28 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at CDRI.

El jueves 19 de febrero, la cena consistirá en pollo frito al horno con salsa de crema de chile verde, patatas gratinadas, judías verdes con beicon, ensalada verde con aderezo de hierbas, panecillos, tarta de melocotón, té y agua.
El menú del viernes incluye carne de res braseada con salsa barbacoa de arce, frijoles charros, ensalada de patatas al horno, ensalada verde con aderezo ranch y verduras picadas, pan tostado estilo Texas con pepinillos, galletas de chocolate, té y agua.
Y el sábado, la última comida del encuentro será estofado de carne con salsa, puré de patatas con queso, verduras asadas, panecillos calientes, crumble de manzana, té y agua.
Cada comida cuesta $33 por adelantado e incluye impuestos y propina. La fecha límite para hacer el pedido es el viernes 13 de febrero.

Este mes, la Sociedad Protectora de Animales de Alpine organizará un evento para recaudar fondos con el fin de establecer una clínica veterinaria en Terlingua.
La clínica ofrecerá servicios de esterilización, castración, vacunación e implantación de microchips para los residentes del sur del condado.

En las próximas dos semanas, Big Bend Health llevará a cabo dos reuniones comunitarias para hablar sobre el futuro de la atención médica en la región.

A finales de mes, el Instituto de Investigación del Desierto de Chihuahua celebrará su segundo intercambio anual de semillas.
Para participar, traiga las semillas que haya recolectado durante el último año para compartirlas con otros. Recuerde que las semillas deben ser nativas de la región de Trans-Pecos, haber sido cosechadas el otoño pasado y no deben ser híbridas.
El intercambio se llevará a cabo el sábado 28 de febrero, de 10:00 a. m. a 2:00 p. m., en las instalaciones del CDRI.
