Tonight (MONDAY NIGHT), Alpine High School hosts a Christmas concert for jazz band, color guard, and concert band. 

The concert begins at 6:30 p.m. in the high school gym. To attend, bring a food donation for the food pantry or an unwrapped toy for Brown Santa.

The Christmas concert is the perfect time to see your Alpine Bucks display their talents and celebrate this time of year and the holiday.

Tomorrow (TUESDAY), Brewster County officials will hold a special commissioners meeting.

Officials are set to discuss and potentially take action regarding the Brewster County fireworks policy. They’ll also hear from the county’s comptroller.

The meeting starts Tuesday morning at 9:30 at the Brewster County Courthouse.

This week, children throughout the Big Bend have a chance to contact Santa Claus at the North Pole by shortwave radio.

On Wednesday, Dec. 17, from 5 to 7 p.m. head to the True Value Hardware store in Alpine. There, members of the Big Bend Amateur Radio Club will help children talk to Saint Nick via shortwave radio.

Dress warmly and head to True Value between 5 and 7 p.m. to have your chance to contact the North Pole in person.

This weekend, Michael’s Mountain Ministry of Alpine will hold their annual live nativity.

On Dec. 19, 20 and the 21, head to the stable area by Kokernot Lodge for live performances, beginning each evening at 7. 

There will be coffee, hot chocolate and cookies served to members of the audience and participants after each night’s performance. 

And on Saturday, Dec. 20, the Big Bend Children’s Chorus will entertain with Christmas carols before the nativity performance.

During the upcoming holiday week, the City of Alpine will have special hours for the Hal Flanders Recycling Center.


The center will be open only on the following dates during the Christmas and New Year holidays.

Tuesday, Dec. 23, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Tuesday, Dec. 30, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Regular operating hours will resume on Wednesday, Jan. 7, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Next week, the Sunshine House in Alpine will hold a free health clinic.

On Monday, Dec. 22, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the clinic will offer general checkups and consultations, EKG screenings, and ultrasound screenings.

The Sunshinehouse is located at 402 E. Holland Ave.

The three-day event focuses on the future of water in the Chihuahuan Desert of West Texas.
