Tomorrow (TUESDAY) is election day, and Texans will have their say on 17 constitutional amendments that range from property tax cuts and water infrastructure funding to bail reform.
But before you vote, you’ll want to check your voter registration for your polling location.
In Brewster County, voters in Precinct 1 will cast their ballot at the Assembly of God Fellowship Hall, located at 1802 N Hwy 118. While voters in Precinct 2 and 8 will vote at the Judge Val Clark Beard office on North 7th street.
Precinct 3 voters will head to the Marathon Community Center and voters in Precinct 4 will head to the Alpine Civic Center. Precincts 5, 6 and 7 will vote at the JW “Red” Pattillo community center in Study Butte.
All polling locations will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Election Day tomorrow (TUESDAY).

The Alpine City Council meets tomorrow (TUESDAY) for a workshop and regular council meeting.
The workshop begins Tuesday, Nov. 4 at 4 p.m., and will focus on the city budget and amendments the council wants to make to it.
Afterwards, the council meets for a regularly scheduled meeting, where they’re set to approve those amendments, including one for water infrastructure improvements.
According to an agenda for the meeting, the council will also discuss the plans for the city to work with Alpine ISD on improvements to Manuel Payne field at Kokernot Park.
The council will also discuss the still vacant city manager position. That discussion will happen in executive session, which is not open to the public.

The Center for Big Bend Studies at Sul Ross is undergoing a leadership change that the university says will allow the center to “expand research capacity.”
According to a press release from the Alpine university, Bill Adams will become the interim director at the center. Adams previously served as the center’s associate director of operations. Byron Schroeder, who was the director for five years, will continue working with the Center for Big Bend Studies, but will work as a research scientist, focusing on archaeological fieldwork and scholarship.
A national search for a permanent director is expected to launch before the end of the year.

Jett’s Grill at the Paisano Hotel in Marfa is temporarily closing.
In a social media post announcing the news, the restaurant said it made the move to “take the next steps toward reorganizing and reimagining” the place.
The restaurant thanked guests and friends for providing feedback on what they’d like to see the restaurant become.
It’s unclear when Jett’s Grill might reopen or what the next phase for the restaurant will look like.

During Artwalk weekend later this month (NOVEMBER), Sul Ross State University will host a special guided hike on Hancock Hill.
On Saturday, Nov. 22, starting at 9 a.m., Matt Walter will lead a 1.8 mile moderately challenging hike across Hancock Hill which will provide photographers with the opportunity to view Alpine from above.

Later this month, the Borderlands Research Institute at Sul Ross will host a one-day workshop for landowners across the region to help them understand new opportunities for land use.
The event is called Diversifying Land Use in the Trans-Pecos: Informing Landowner Strategies for Conservation and Economic Sustainability. It will provide landowners with the latest information on renewable energy, carbon markets, conservation easements, ecotourism and other ways to complement traditional uses of land, like hunting and ranching.
The event will be held at the Morgan Center at Sul Ross State University in Alpine on Nov. 13 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

El Ayuntamiento de Alpine se reúne mañana (MARTES) para un taller y una reunión ordinaria del consejo.
El taller comienza el martes 4 de noviembre a las 4 p.m. y se centrará en el presupuesto de la ciudad y las enmiendas que el consejo quiere introducir en él.
Posteriormente, el consejo se reúne en sesión ordinaria, donde aprobará dichas enmiendas, incluida una para mejoras en la infraestructura hídrica.
Según el orden del día de la reunión, el consejo también discutirá los planes para que la ciudad trabaje con el distrito escolar independiente de Alpine (Alpine ISD) en las mejoras del campo Manuel Payne en el parque Kokernot.
El consejo también debatirá sobre el puesto vacante de administrador municipal. Dicha discusión tendrá lugar en sesión privada, la cual no estará abierta al público.

El Centro de Estudios de Big Bend en Sul Ross está experimentando un cambio de liderazgo que, según la universidad, permitirá al centro “ampliar su capacidad de investigación”.
Según un comunicado de prensa de la universidad de Alpine, Bill Adams asumirá el cargo de director interino del centro. Adams anteriormente se desempeñó como director asociado de operaciones del centro. El restaurante Jett’s Grill del Hotel Paisano en Marfa cerrará temporalmente.
En una publicación en redes sociales donde anunciaba la noticia, el restaurante dijo que tomaba esta decisión para “dar los siguientes pasos hacia la reorganización y la reinvención” del lugar.
El restaurante agradeció a los clientes y amigos por sus comentarios sobre cómo les gustaría que se convirtiera el restaurante.
No está claro cuándo podría reabrir Jett’s Grill ni cómo será la siguiente fase para el restaurante.
