Tomorrow (FRIDAY), Sul Ross’ theatre department kicks off its next production, the dark comedy “True West.”
The story explores the tense relationship between two brothers working toward the American Dream in California’s San Gabriel Valley,
FIELDS1: Which is a little bit different from West Texas, but not too different. But it’s beautiful country up there, it does really remind me of Alpine, all the picture’s I’ve seen of it. It’s just beautiful, hard country.” (0:18)
That’s JB Fields, an actor in the play, speaking to KVLF.
In the story, Fields plays the character Lee, who visits his brother Austin who’s writing a screenplay while living in the valley.
Justin Hinton plays Austin.
HINTON1: “The first kinda few scenes of the show just go into the many ways Lee is kind of bringing the chaos of his life into Austin’s life, and how they both deal with that.” (0:10)
The production opens Friday, Oct. 24, and runs through Nov. 9 with performances on Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. The show however will not be performed on Halloween.
Tickets are $15 for general admission and $10 for seniors 65 and older. U.S. veterans and university students, faculty and staff receive free admission.

On Friday, the Small Business Development Center at Sul Ross will host a training session for business owners.
The one-hour training will cover budgeting and how to tackle it. In this webinar, you’ll learn the value of budgeting and why it’s a crucial tool for financial success. That training takes place Friday, Oct. 24 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
The center’s next training will tell you everything you need to know to get your business on Google Search and Maps. In this workshop, you will learn how to create and manage a Google Business Profile from start to finish. The training will be Oct. 29 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.

A reminder – early voting is now underway for the Nov. 4 election, which will see voters across the state cast their ballots for 17 constitutional amendments.
Early voting will continue through Oct. 31. In Alpine, you can cast your ballot from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Judge Val Clark Beard conference room, located at 203 N. 7th Street.
The constitutional amendments up for vote range from property tax cuts and water infrastructure funding to bail reform.

In November, an indigenous nonprofit will host a reburial ceremony in Presidio for seven people who once called the Presidio-Ojinaga area their home – it’s an area known as “La Junta” .
Throughout the years, the remains of Indigenous people were taken by archaeologists and private collectors to be studied and held in institutions. In recent years, there has been an effort to repatriate those remains to their rightful resting place.
The historic event will be held Saturday, November 1, at 9:00 a.m. at the Cementerio del Barrio de los Lipanes in Presidio. A community reception will follow at the American Legion.

Next month (NOVEMBER), Big Bend Best presents the inaugural best ball golf scramble.
The group is looking for three-person scramble teams to compete in the tournament. Registration is $225 per team and includes dinner and two drink tickets. The top team will win a cash prize, and there will be prizes for the person who hits the longest drive and the person who gets closest to the hole.
The event is Nov. 21 at 10 a.m. at the Alpine Country Club.

Mañana (VIERNES), el departamento de teatro de Sul Ross lanza su próxima producción, la comedia negra “True West”.
La historia explora la tensa relación entre dos hermanos que trabajan por el sueño americano en el Valle de San Gabriel de California.
FIELDS comento: Es un poco diferente del oeste de Texas, pero no demasiado. Pero es un paisaje precioso allá arriba; me recuerda mucho a Alpine, por todas las fotos que he visto. Es un paisaje precioso y duro.
Ese es JB Fields, un actor de la obra, hablando con KVLF.
En la historia, Fields interpreta al personaje Lee, quien visita a su hermano Austin, que está escribiendo un guión mientras vive en el valle.

El viernes, el Centro de Desarrollo de Pequeñas Empresas de Sul Ross organizará una sesión de capacitación para propietarios de empresas.

En este seminario web, aprenderá el valor de la elaboración de presupuestos y por qué es una herramienta crucial para el éxito financiero. La capacitación se llevará a cabo el viernes 24 de octubre de 10:00 a 11:00.
La próxima capacitación del centro explicará todo lo que necesita saber para que su negocio aparezca en la Búsqueda de Google y Maps. En este taller, aprenderá a crear y administrar un Perfil de Negocio de Google de principio a fin. La capacitación tendrá lugar el 29 de octubre de 11:00 a 12:00.

Un recordatorio: la votación anticipada ya está en marcha para las elecciones del 4 de noviembre, en las que los votantes de todo el estado emitirán sus votos para 17 enmiendas constitucionales.

En noviembre, una organización indígena sin fines de lucro organizará una ceremonia de entierro en Presidio para siete personas que alguna vez llamaron al área de Presidio-Ojinaga su hogar, un área conocida como “La Junta”..
A lo largo de los años, arqueólogos y coleccionistas privados se han llevado restos de pueblos indígenas para estudiarlos y conservarlos en instituciones. En los últimos años, se ha trabajado para repatriarlos a su legítimo lugar de descanso.
El evento histórico se llevará a cabo el sábado 1ro de noviembre a las 9:00 a. m. en el Cementerio del Barrio de los Lipanes en Presidio. Posteriormente, se ofrecerá una recepción comunitaria en la Legión Americana.

El próximo mes (NOVIEMBRE), Big Bend Best presenta el torneo inaugural de golf scramble con la mejor pelota.
